I have purchase 2 of these machines before
and one lasted 13 years, an the other lasted 15 years. I love the Rocky bean grinder that i have had now for 28 years. It’s very well made and I’ve loved the various coffees I’ve tried with making my lattes.

Great machine for a home
Very well built and easy to Clean and maintain, it looks like it will last for many years. It will make great espresso if you pair it with a capable grinder. I researched a lot before buying and I have been using my machine on daily basis since I got it about two months ago.

The Best for the Money
We make 4 lattes per day. Prior machine lasted 11 years . We bought same model again and its been improved with better construction, water seals, etc. You do need to clean it periodically to maintain performance. Instructions provided are accurate and complete. Dont waste your money on cheaper machines – they die in 1-3 years.

Takes practice but you’ll get perfect results every time
You need to buy a quality burr grinder to go along with it. Store ground or ground at your local coffee shop will not bring out the perfect espresso. My cappuccinos are perfect. I get perfect crema on my espressi. I love this machine. It’s all you need for home use.

Great machine. This is the second I have owned.
My first has been in use for 15+ yrs and only needs a minor repair. It makes wonderful espresso. I have recommended the Silvia to three friends who also bought it, love it and recommended to their friends.

Loved the Machine. Customer Service from Seattle Coffee Gear was top notch.
Seattle Coffee Gear was awesome when my machine turned out to have a malfunctioning internal part. This kind of stuff happens, and they were so responsive right away and arranged for me to ship the machine back. I loved the machine; they didn’t have a replacement in stock, so I reordered the model with the built-in moment Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine with PID. I fully expect it to be excellent. I love the brand and the customer support from Seattle Coffee Gear.

This is a great espresso machine
I’ve had this for a couple months, I use it every morning, I don’t regret buying this despite being outrageously expensive. Because I know I’ll get my moneys worth and it will pay itself off in no time. Actually my problem that I had to deal with was not getting too carried away and limiting myself to four shots only of espresso per day. I was doing 6+ but that’s crazy and not good for long-term usage of caffeine intake.I do have one minor complain about this, maybe two. One is the water reservoir I wish were slightly bigger, seems like I refill it every few days. The other thing is the steam wand positioning. I am unable to bring the steam one forward and steam milk with it. I have to go off to the side 45° rather than in front because the pitcher I have, which is a normal pitcher, bumps on the drip plate so you have to go off to the side to avoid that interference. Again, not really a big deal but, I wish it would allow to steam off of the front direction.

consistently reliable
This machine works very well and is expected to last. It replaced a Silvia that gave service daily for almost twenty years.

Highly recommend
We’ve had this machine for two years. We used it to host a coffee bar and made hundreds of shots each time. We’ve never had any issues and love the quality.

Just the best home espresso machine!
Cannot more highly recommend this espresso machine. It takes just a bit of time to fine-tune the shots that fit your tastes, but it is not hard to learn and is well worth the effort. We were told we would make better espresso that the retail store with this machine and what we were told was correct. Easy daily cleaning and regular deep cleaning keep our home espresso drink absolutely the best and the most consistent we have experienced anywhere.

Simpler than one may think
I thought these may be more complicated to use, so I worked my way up to it from machines that did everything for you inside, grinding beans, measuring amount of ground beans for desired strength. I thought it a good idea at the time because I am basically brainless in the morning until I’ve had my coffee. I was wrong, not only is it simple, but I realize now that having a separate grinder (specifically meant for grinding beans fine enough for espresso), and manually loading it should make the espresso maker last much longer. The automatic ones break down due to all those bells & whistles, they break down fairly quickly in relation to cost, and they aren’t easily fixed. I can see with this that the machine won’t break down due to an inside grinder getting grounds all over inside, you control the strength much easier, and if the grinder gets mucked up, you’ll still have your machine for espresso. It also makes wonderful crema, especially when you grind the beans as you go. And it is uncomplicated enough for me to do with my morning fuzzy brain. It is on the somewhat pricey side, though the last one with bells & whistles cost almost as much but didn’t last commensurate with the price paid. I recommend it- it is really not complicated.

Wonderful Quality Machine!
This is a commercial quality espresso maker..The Rancilio Silvia makes outstanding espresso with lovely delicious crema.. it takes a little practice, which is part of the fun, and Wow is it good! I also bought the bottomless portafilter which makes it even easier to pull delicious crema.. ¡Bien!

Almost perfect single boiler espresso machine
Bought the model without the PID. Don’t need it. I’ve been brewing consistently delicious espresso with this machine. The steamwand is very powerful, but the single hole as opposed to 3 or 4 is a little awkward. The rocker switches feel very good, and the quality components remind me of working on a LM Linea when I was a barista for a few years. For a single boiler, this is the best machine I’ve ever used at this level. The only downside is the boiler design. You have to ensure it’s full when doing a cold start to not burn the interior components.. kinda ridiculous, but a minor inconvenience at worst for a time tested classic like this.

Oldie But Goodie
When making like my zillionth latte with my Silvia this morning, I wondered if I had every espressed by love for this machine. Originally purchased years ago because it fit in a cabinet after a different maker’s unit had died and been discontinued. Not only does it do the job of making a great draw of espresso, it has lasted for over 20 years with only routine cleaning. Even when left on over a weekend, the overheat switch protected it and was easy to reset (after a nice lady at their 800 number told me where it was.) It is all analogue – easily disassembled, simple physical switches and valves with knobs – so it can be repaired if something were ever to break – no electronics to die. The newer units now have made changes so repairs would be even easier. If all Italian machines were this well designed and well made, everyone would drive an old Ferrari.

Instructions are a bit wonky, but the sellers were very helpful
Sounds crazy but we got it for Christmas and tried to use it that morning. The instructions show a third vacuum tube (which only exists on the super upscale models, not on the one we bought). AND the trays on the top and the drip trays are wrapped in something that makes it look like it’s not stainless steel— it’s a protector that doesn’t look like a protector. Unwrap it, lol. My husband was afraid it was from a different model and there’s nothing to indicate that it’s wrapping.

I bought in 1997 and still going strong, used daily.
Have used this daily since first purchased in 1997. The only hiccup was having to replace the steam valve after it sat unused for 2 years when going through a coffee press phase. A self important reviewer dissed its appearance as being “boxy and unfeminine” an elliptical shot at its well deserved reputation for quality, popularity and subsequent nick name “Ms. Silvia”[I’ve never heard a “Ms. Silvia” reference anywhere before.] If you want faux design elements in your espresso machine over longevity, reliability and consistent performance you are wasting your $$$

Actually fine for beginners
I bought this machine as my first espresso machine, against the consensus of the internet that this machine is “bad for beginners,” and that I should buy a Gaggia. I did some research and found that the Gaggia has an aluminum boiler, which Is a red flag for me for health reasons. I’m extremely happy that I bought the Silvia instead. The only plastic in the entire machine is in the switches, the cold water supply and return tubes, the cold water tank, the portafilter handle, wire insulation, and the group head fascia. Everything (*everything*) else is stainless, copper, or brass. The boiler heats up pretty fast. Not instant but it’s not so slow to be frustrating. You read about the drip tray being too small and yes, it really is too small. But it’s easy to pull it out and empty it. Would also recommend the flat shower screen mod, which is super easy to do and costs like $30. Also it vibrates pretty good, so you’ll want to use a cup on the heavier side to receive your espresso. The double basket that comes with it is a 15 gram basket, and I use 16 grams with no problems. This is not marked anywhere obvious that I could find. Temp surfing sounds complicated but you get used to it really fast.I use this machine to make 6-8 shots a day and the machine is flawless as long as you do your part. Just don’t forget to backflush and descale regularly.I’m living proof that you absolutely can use this machine as a complete espresso noob.

Great cup of coffee
I like that a DIY can fix it when it breaks and repair parts are available, it makes great tasting coffee, must wait a little to make cappuccino, but worth the wait. Froths milk excellent but took me several tries to perfect the technique. I am the only one uses it, because no one wants to pay attention to proper procedure and attention required for use ( I am afraid heating element may burn) and are not allowed to use. I also use it to make a cup of hot delicious chocolate with froth almond milk for my wife. Wife is happy! One observation, there is always water in the bottom tray with no spills, not sure why.

12 years and still going strong
I’ve had this for 12 years. It still works perfectly, no problems at all. I make 2 cappuccinos every morning. I can generally make it better than most local coffee shops. It costs $1 per drink, compared to $4 outside. I’ve saved approximately ($4 – $1) X 2 drinks X 300 days X 12 years = $21,600!!! This was terrifically good purchase. The problems with this machine are well-known. Since it’s a single boiler you have to wait to steam milk. The heat is inconsistent. The steam power starts a little weak and degrades. I never added a PID controller or other mods.

Great machines
I bought both. Silvia and Rocky 20 years ago and I have averaged 2+ lattes per day over that time period… and they are still amazing. At the 14 year point it had an annoying small water leak which I ignored, it was the gasket on the boiler which went dry and the heating element got ruined. That was repaired by a local shop for about $300 vs a $10 gasket. Lastly the pump went out this year (the 20th year). I bought the pump from Amazon for around $30 and easily replaced it myself. For the past 6 months I have been making 4-6 lattes per day and I can honestly say I love Silvia and Rocky …5 Stars. I paid about $850 for the 2 of them 20 years ago and Silvia is now $800+ alone. Don’t wait… it’s worth the $$ and you will love your own coffee more than a $6 Starbucks plus irritating outrageous tip suggestions.

Withstanding the test of time
I purchased this machine early 2019, after almost 4 years it still works like the day I purchased it. My lattes are way better then Starbucks. I have saved thousands over the years, the best coffee decision I have ever made. You need to purchase a burr grinder for best results. It takes a while to get it down, it’s all about the grind, and I weigh my shots for the best consistency. Too much coffee will bog down the pour, too little coffee will result in a pour that is too weak and a pour that is too fast. There is definitely a learning curve to get it down.

FOR MY FELLOW BEGINNERS
Don’t waste your money on some other “entry level” espresso machine because they’re easier to use or something. If this one interests you, then buy it. It isn’t a hard machine to use. It has 4 buttons……I don’t understand the espresso community and how they think making an espresso is like an art or something a new person couldn’t comprehend lol.If this was the case then baristas would make more than they do.This is a great machine for your average person wanting to save that trip to a coffee shop. Man I would spend $30 on DoorDash or Uber Eats just so I could have a coffee delivered. Not any more!Don’t let anyone intimidate you and make you think this is hard to do.

Great Machine and Quick Delivery
Product arrived at my house with every piece intact. There was a little bit of a learning curve but when dialed in, the machine pulls excellent espresso shots! The steam wand works wonders.I really like the commercial parts and the piece of mind that replacement parts are available. The only issue I have has to do with the factory group head gasket. The portafilter stops a tad short of the red marker on the group head (see image). There were a couple times I ran into problems with water leaking out between the head and filter.I plan to replace the factory gasket with an aftermarket silicone eventually. Not a show stopper but just something to keep in mind.
