This Machine Will Improve Your Mornings
A few months ago I started buying Sidamo coffee from Wild Foods (available from Amazon). This is such good coffee. I was using a coffee bean grinder and a Capresso brewer which we’ve had for 12 years. The Capresso started refusing to work and I was unhappy with the Kitchen Aid grinder which turned my beans into a mix of chunks and dust. Decided to buy my first combination brewer/grinder.The Breville is like having a smart phone instead of a flip phone. The display basically “talks” to you and shows exactly what is going on and how much time each step will take. It shows how much water is in it. You can even adjust the volume of the beeper, as well as all the adjustments for the coffee strength. I love that I can fill the water all the way to the top, even though I may not use it all at one time, and the placement at the top of the machine is easy to access for adding water. I’ve had no problem with the gravity feed, even with the fresh beans I love. The directions say to put warm water in the carafe to warm it up before using it. I don’t find this necessary when brewing at least 6 cups of coffee-it is really hot right after brewing (thanks to the reviewer who measured the temperatures). This is the first day we’d had the machine. I’m “over the moon” about it now. Will update this review if there is more to say later. Breville scores big time again. We also have their toaster oven.Update: I must agree with other reviewers that the carafe, while almost impossible to spill, makes pouring a chore. I still love the other features, but this is a real negative-the only one I’ve experienced with this appliance. Since my first review, I’ve used the single cup option. It is just plain terrific, and works great with either a coffee cup or a thermos. I have been careful to clean and dry the gold filter, and its container which has the ground coffee feed, between brewings, even the single cup ones. The cleaning is super easy, just wash out the gold filter and its container and wipe down the silver plate which controls the exit of the ground coffee into the brewing container. I’m still very happy with this purchase, but like many others, wish the carafe would pour easier. I must add that the grinder is quiet in comparison to others I’ve heard. It works very quickly while producing grounds which are perfectly homogeneous in size.

Perfectly customizable-
First time Drip coffee machine owner.. all seems great, with the customization features- timer to start morning coffee – wifes raves about the taste and freshness of the fresh gournd coffee compared to Nesspresso. Take slight effort to clean, but took about 1.5 days to get it down and seems pretty easy and straightforward. Breville is quiality procduct and have never been dissapointed. All good!

Buy it. Buy it now.
I have never understood why anyone would spend more than $50 for a drip coffee maker, I would buy Dunkin’ pre-ground and run it though my Mr. Coffee with the glass carafe, brew 8 cups and hit it with a microwave instead of leaving the pot on to simmer the coffee into a disgusting concentrated goo. Mr. Coffee finally and mercifully broke. I got to go shopping.I own a breville espresso machine. It has been great. I still use it but I get burned out on Americano. My father has a Wolf, which his appliance salesperson threw in when he spent $15 grand on a frigging fridge. The wolf is very fancy, and it makes good coffee for a $500 coffee maker. I bought the $200 bunn drip machine, but it was DOA, so I returned it. Thank AmazonThe breville arrived, the instructions were simple, and after fiddling around with it, I am able to consistently brew my desired coffee from good beans… morning after morning. I love the controls, simple and intuitive. The insulated stainless steel carafe keeps the coffee at the perfect temperature for hours without having to microwave the brew late morningMake no mistake this machine is pricey. I have been VERY pleased with it. You get what you pay for with breville. They make high quality products

Best Coffee Maker!!
I absolutely love this coffee maker. Hands down the best I’ve had yet! I don’t have a lot of counter space so I wanted a coffee maker with a grinder so I didn’t have two appliances sitting on my counter. This is the perfect solution. Previously I had a Cuisinart Grind and Brew but it required so much daily maintenance and it stopped working after about a year and a half. So I decided my new one would have all the features I wanted. I wanted the ability to brew into a travel mug and still have the option of brewing into a kraft. During the work week we brew into our travel mugs before leaving for work, no wasted coffee and no coffee kraft to clean but on the weekends we use the kraft. This coffee maker fits our lifestyle perfect. It is so easy to use and the auto brew function allows me to set a travel mug to brew for my husband who occasionally goes into work before I get up. His coffee is brewed and ready when he leaves all he has to do is put on the lid. I can’t imagine having another coffee maker!! The only complaint I have about this coffee maker is there are a lot of plastic parts and I’ve only had it for a couple weeks. I hope it holds up better than my last one or I’ll be seriously disappointed!

KO’d K-cups
So far… this is the Mac Daddy of coffee makers. I was looking for a pod free single serve brewer to reduce cost and waste but mainly so I can use my own coffee. I almost missed this one because it’s not heavily advertised as a single server. When you open it you’ll see it is heavy and appears well built with stainless steel and good grade PP plastic. The instructions and controls are easy and intuitive but still a bit techy (which I like). It is tall but fits in the 17.5″ space on the counter under the wall cabinets. I put four felt pads on the bottom so it slides out easy to access the hopper, water reservoir and controls which are all on top. The temp after brewing is 150F in an unwarmed ceramic cup, 165F in an unwarmed carafe and 185F in a prewarmed carafe. The brewed volume in single serve mode has been consistent each time (my Keurig would be off by almost a half a cup sometimes). Strength settings of 4 and 8 gave clearly different tastes. A single serve brew takes about 4 minutes which surprisingly does not bother me. I use paper filters and only spray out the filter module but make sure to clean and dry the chute area on the module and the steel disc. This takes about a minute which again, surprisingly, I don’t seem to mind. It does look as though the beans load from the front of the hopper only so I just level out the beans each time. It’s great to have a single serve brewer making good coffee from fresh ground beans. Plus it’s ready to brew a pot when guests come over. Will update after longer use.

Great coffee maker
Had Cuisinart 900 series the last 2 coffee makers. They lasted 5-6 years each. When last one burned out got a cheaper Black and Decker with no grinder or bean hopper, it took forever to brew bad coffee. After suffering for a few months found the Breville. This was a Renewed unit and was on a sale I could not resist. When it arrived it looked new. Has way more features than the Cuisinart and makes great coffee. Built way better than the Cuisinart, more adjustments for brew strength, grind size, automatically distributes the right amount water out of the tank, has cup option. The only thing is it is harder to clean (but worth it) and does not have the heater to heat the metal carafe while brewing.

Ongoing Review
Version 1.0: Just arrived! This coffee pot is massive. It requires a good rinsing before use, so it better make the best cup of coffee I have ever had. More to follow…03/15/25: I’ve made 2 4 cup pots of freshly ground coffee and both cups were perfect! Very tasty! I’ll try the grinder soon.

Improvements
Gave this as a gift to replace the one we have owned for years. I was purposely looking for a machine the grinds and has a morning timer to have coffee made when my husband gets up. Having both abilities is rare in a coffee maker He states they have made improvements and really appreciates the new version. Especially the ability to make a single serving in his large Starbucks to go cup. The grinder is also not as loud. I appreciate the stainless craft, so I don’t have to see the coffee in the pot and the slender proportion to fit neatly on the counter. So far… great choice.

This has been a game changer!!
I bought this because I have issues with coffee, it didn’t matter what it was, any K cup, or ground coffee from the store always seemed to make me sick, I love coffee, so it was super upsetting. The only time I wouldn’t get sick is if I visited my local coffee stand, but spending $6-$10 dollars every day is out of the question. I started researching about 6 months before I bought my Breville, come to find out there are many reasons that it was making me ill. After researching more on grinding and brew coffee pots and decided regardless of the reviews I would give this a try. Now it’s been since January and I couldn’t be happier! Gone are the days of getting ill, tummy upsets, heartburn and headaches, this machine has been a breath of fresh air for me!! I have not had one issue with mine, I clean the shoot everyday and throughly remove all the parts and clean every other week and descale as it needs it. As long as you do that, this coffee machine will do a great job for you!! The carafe keeps coffee super hot even after all these months, the flavor is incredible every time! The only thing that I can complain about is how you have to clean the carafe, but it’s super minor and doesn’t even bother me. But if you’re like me then this is a good choice for you, can’t recommend it enough!

Amazingly fresh tasting coffee and so easy to set
I wanted a Coffee pot that would grind the beans right before I wanted my coffee. This would ensure the freshest cup of coffee. I stumbled onto Breville and took a chance spending over $200 on a coffee pot. It worked fantastic for two years and then I had an issue internally. I called customer service and they were extremely friendly and tried to walk me through a couple solutions. They didn’t work so they sent me a shipping label and I sent it back for repair. The customer service was amazing because this Coffee pot was 2 1/2 years old. They shipped it back very quickly but actually sent me a brand new one with no questions asked. I am totally impressed that they went above and beyond and I will forever be a Breville loyal customer. The coffee tastes amazing and I love how you just turn a few dials and it grinds the amount of beans based on what you dialed in. Other coffee pots grind whatever amount of beans you put in there so you have to change your Formula every time you buy new beans depending on their strength and freshness and quality. My Breville coffee pot is more of a “set it and forget it “type coffee pot which I love since I try different beans all the time. You can adjust the finenessof the grind as well as the strength. I give this five stars because of how amazing the coffee tastes as well as their amazing customer service. I would highly recommend this coffee pot to anyone who wants fresh coffee taste without paying 5$ per cup or wanting to wait in a drive thru line. It makes such a difference in the taste when the bean is ground immediately before brewing.

Great Combo Grinder Coffee Maker!
This is a great coffee maker! It’s definitely an upgrade from our previous combo, blade grinder coffee maker (conair cuisine). You can fill the hopper and water tank to the max, set the amount of coffee you want, and wake up to a great pot (or travel mug!) of hot, fresh ground java. It was a bit of an investment, however we buy quality beans, so we were willing to give it a shot. We’ve been using this a few weeks now and have had no issues. It’s SUPER easy to clean, sturdy, and IMO not as giant as previous reviews had warned. The only complaint I would have is trying to pour out the last cup of coffee from the carafe can be a bit of an issue (you have to turn it upside down and it dribbles out of the top a bit), however the travel mug fills perfectly to the measurement chosen so I now typically just use that function. It is not really clarified in the manual, but the carafe measurement is in 5 oz cups, whereas the travel mug measurement is in exact ounces, so for a 16 oz coffee I either make “4 cups” (there is not a 3.5 option…) in the carafe or “16 oz” in the travel mug. After reading some reviews, I check the beans in the hopper to make sure they’re not blocked before setting it for the morning.

A Cut Above The Rest
This is a superior coffee maker. After wasting time and money twice with one of its competitors which made superior coffee but was so poorly engineered as to soon fail, I thought I would try a Breville. This is an extremely well-engineered, sturdy machine that allows the user a lot of flexibility in brewing coffee according to their preferences. I was nearly dissuaded by reviews critical of the cleaning required after each use. Yes, it requires a tad more attention for daily cleaning than some others, but I have no problem investing the extra 3 or four minutes required after each use to ensure smooth operation and the next day’s good cup of coffee. It is well worth it to me compared to a machine having less “fiddle factor” that will break in two years requiring replacement cost. You can find a cheaper machine, but I doubt you will find one better than this.

Pay no attention to the bad reviews- those people are lost. This thing is AWESOME!
Been using this product for 2 weeks now- I love it. The k-cup & drip brewer is in the dumpster! THERE’S NO COMPARISON!!!The coffee is delicious! The unit is remarkably consistent. The aroma of freshly ground beans is simply divine! This isn’t just a drip brewer- it actually infuses the coffee & water, then releases it all at once. Combine this feature with the ability to adjust the grind size and strength, and you have yourself a heavenly cup of jo!So- first off- the care & cleaning is so not an issue.after brewing, simply toss the paper filter or wash the reusable filter (included) like you normally would.refill the water reservoir (as normally would) – then wipe the disk off with a paper towel (3 seconds) and dry the coffee chute that’s part of the filter basket (so the fresh ground coffee won’t stick to it after you rinse it off) We’re talking less than 2 minutes folks- NOT AN ISSUE!Second- yes- some beans have more oil than others… so if your beans have more oil and you experience the grounds sticking in the basket chute (we haven’t yet, but some people are complaining about it), then INCREASE THE GROUND SIZE & STRENGTH and your oily bean powder wont stick!!! But even more relevant, do some research on coffee bean quality- you’ll find if it has too much oil, then the bean is not ready to be ground. The burr grinder is WONDERFUL, btw!It took us a week of experimenting to determine what we liked best for a medium roasted bean (ground size = 3, strength = 4)No measuring required- simply fill the bean hopper and select size & strength. People complaining about the amount of beans used are clueless- $8 – $12 for a 12 oz bag of beans will give us 10 servings / day at strength 4 for 5 days. Do the math compared to the alternative. Yes- you can also use this as a regular coffee maker with pre-ground coffee (clueless why you would tho) – It’s very simple- simply turn the dial to pre-ground, fill the basket with your favorite store bought stale old oxidized pre-ground coffee and push start. Regarding noise… I have 3 young children sleeping within 25-30′ of the unit- doesn’t wake them up. It’s about as loud as a small handheld dust buster. Trust me, it wouldn’t be a deal breaker. It’s actually quieter than the pump in my k-cup brewer! lol. And, although there’s no setting to “pre-grind” the beans now and brew later- you can easily hit start, to grind the beans, then kill the power and select “pre-ground” the following morning- but if you’re contemplating this, just buy a stand alone burr grinder. The fit and finish feels and looks high quality (typical from Breville), you’ll enjoy the look of it on the counter.

Breville grind coffee maker
I’m just getting a replacement. Filter was looking at the latest Breville offerings and saw that we purchased this back in 2016 so my current unit is eight years old. We love it and it’s still going strong. We had the old Cuisinart and they lasted about three years so we would probably be buying our third one at this point if we didn’t go with the Breville. I imagine we’ll get another couple of years out of it and then we’ll just upgrade for the sake of getting the latest. 10 years is more than anyone can ask for a coffee maker. Timer, grinder, insulation to keep coffee heated = all top-of-the-line.When you do a total ROI, it’s Best bang for the buck.

Wonderful coffee maker
I am a fan of this brand. The quality of each product from this brand is truly wonderful! The coffee maker is 100% because of the design it has. The coffee is ground at the moment, which provides a fresher coffee flavor and the thermal cup it has keeps the coffee hot and still retains its fresh flavor. Easy to clean. There is nothing like a good coffee every morning and all day long.

I waited about a month and a half after purchasing this coffee machine to write a review, as I wanted to see if some of the negative reviews held true. I replaced a Krups KM7000 that stopped working when the internal fuse blew and couldn’t be easily replaced. I was apprehensive at first regarding the price of this Breville, but I have other Breville appliances and have found them all to be well made, so I took the plunge. This coffee maker blows the Krups away (not to mention that the Krups is discontinued) in every sense. It’s relatively quiet, never fails to grind or brew properly, and the carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours afterwards (we usually use the auto start feature and never prewarm the carafe). The machine does require some minimum maintenance, which I haven’t found to be a significant issue at all. There’s a silver disc behind the filter basket that gets some grounds on it; I wipe it off with a wet paper towel or sponge every morning after brewing the coffee, which takes about ten seconds. Once a week, per the recommendations, I remove the coffee bean basket and clean the grinder with either a paper towel or the included brush; that takes about ten minutes all told. My one complaint is that to reassemble the grinder, you have to make sure there are no coffee beans in it – hard to do with adult fingers, but a minor quibble. All in all, if you’re a person who doesn’t mind spending a little more for quality and a machine that seems very well built and thought out, this Breville is a no brainer and you won’t regret the purchase.

Oh my!!
Ok…so I read these reviews… The worst and the best… I had a Cuisinart grind and brew prior… It started to lose its power and strength and had no way to clean it.Let me just say take the horror stories with a grain of salt because I use this coffee maker every single day, I have calibrated it, I’ve adjusted the grind, I’ve wiped it out and I’ve cleaned the burrs and this machine has not failed a single time to deliver a delicious cup of coffee. I’ve used locally sourced roasted beans I’ve used lavazza,by the way that is some amazing coffe, and they all turn out as expected.Don’t think twice…I searched exhaustively before I bought this… And am not disappointed–one year later–I still love it… I clean the disk at least once a week… Normally every other day… I have had Zero issues with this coffee maker. This is where you’ll have issues… If you don’t clean it… And it can’t rotate … It won’t grind… just clean your coffee maker and you’ll be fine… I make coffee every single morning… 7 days a week…

Best coffee pot ever!
This will be our second one. We purchased our first one in the beginning of 2018. It went out on us ( sort of) this February of 2023. No issues ever with grinding beans, clogs, or honestly anything for that matter. Choosing the right beans is key along with taking the time to clean the parts each day (which literally takes less than 2 minutes to do). If you have a preferred bean that is a bit oily then this isn’t the machine, it will clog. Not a big deal but cleaner that hopper can be challenging. Ours starting leaking water out the bottom, no problems with anything else but for 5 years it was a no Brainer to purchase another one. UPS sucks at in our area and lost our package but kuddos to Amazon for making it right and getting another one here in a timely manner. Again, having a fresh pot just after beans are ground up is amazing and this thing does it all for you!

Delicious Cup of Coffee
I read all the reviews on this coffee maker grinder, and we have found it to be an excellent product. It does need to be cleaned but if you think about it, you can’t grind coffee beans for months and think it doesn’t need to be cleaned out. We clean the filter compartment every time we make coffee (which takes 2 minutes) and the grinder section every couple of weeks. Well worth the coffee we get to drink!

Worth every penny, and then some.
This is my second Breville coffee maker, my previous one lasted just a hair under three years of nearly every day use. It was the previous version of this same model. I can tell you that this machine makes the best coffee that I’ve ever been able to find. The insulated carafe will keep it hot for at least 5 hours, and I’ve drank it much longer than that – but I don’t mind slightly cold coffee. It can be used to brew single cups also, although I’ve never used that feature. The display is changed from the older version, but still as useful. It’s hard to explain, but it tells you what you want to know about your machine – like how much water is in the water container while you’re filling it up, and how long until the coffee is done. This version also has the “grind control” which was missing on the previous version. That allows you to set how fine the grinder grinds your fresh beans. It also has a new “set up” feature where it will grind a small amount of your beans, then ask you to weigh it, then adjust the grind time to grind the proper amount of beans for your preferred settings. I don’t have a scale, so I don’t know if that changes anything, but honestly, the coffee is excellent right out of the box.The fill slot is on the top, and opens the same as the older model. The filter is a gold-tone permanent filter, and is located in the front in a spring loaded holder slot – just like the old one. It still has the auto cover for the beans that stops the hot steam from going back up your machine into the hopper. Honestly, it seems like they’ve thought of everything.

Workhorse
I’ve had this now for almost a year so here are my pros and cons.Overview:The coffee I use is Copper Moon Sumatra Blend, Dark Roast, Whole Bean (from Amazon).Strength is set to “3”. I started at “5” and slowly worked my way down. If I were to use a lighter blend, I probably would be at a “4” or “5”.Water comes from a filtered water pitcher that holds 8 cups, stored in my refrigerator.I have this programmed to go off 7-days a week, at 5AM (excluding anytime I’m gone on vacation). I’m thinking it has run ~300 times.Pros:Easy to setup and program.Cleaning is easy – as long as you follow the manufacturer’s instructions.Descaling takes a bit of time to complete but that is not a negative.Strong grinder.Cons:To get all the brewed coffee out of the pot, you have to take off the lid and pretty much dump it out into your mug.The fastener on the top that holds the top down for the water inlet sometimes works and sometimes does not. If the lid does not fasten you have to (gently) push the prongs until they click. Odd.Things I do:Since the coffee is done at 5AM, prior to leaving for work, I will rinse and clean the two internal parts and leave the basket holder open . This allows the mechanisms to pretty much dry out before I set it for the next day. It think that helps keep the chute from getting gummed up.I will keep the bean hopper at least half full at all times. Kind of like a gas tank.I would buy this product again.

Many of the other reviews are confusing me….great product!
So– a good number of the reviews we read for this coffee maker before purchasing it complain about 2 things:1) Coffee bean feed from the hopper into the grinder. We’ve had zero problems with this… We’re a 2 person household and each drink 1 cup of coffee before work and take a to-go much with us to work. That means we brew 10-12 cups a day and therefore have to refill the water daily. Maybe lighter coffee drinkers don’t and therefore don’t look at the hopper either. Our experience has been: every time you feel the water tank, fill the hopper too. You know–kind of like how every other coffee maker in the world works. :)2) Extra steps need to be taken to keep the coffee hot (like pre-warming the carafe before brewing). The instructions say that pre-warming the carafe is optional and can be done if you really want the most piping warm coffee possible, but in my experience, it really isn’t necessary. The coffee comes out hot and stays really hot for a long time. One or two reviews also said that pre-warming the carafe defeats the purpose of having coffee set on a timer. And honestly — I bet it doesn’t. This carafe retains heat SO well, that I bet if you poured boiling water into it the night before, let it warm up, dump it out, then put the lid on and set the timer, it would retain a fair amount of that heat until the next morning. Does that sound unnecessary?? Well it is– the coffee is pppllllenty hot. And this coming from a snob who roasts his own coffee and drinks 3-4 cups a day. Some other significant plusses:1) The design of the chute where the grounds go is really smartly simplistic. I’ve had burr grind drip makers before that have clogged significantly in that area. The simplicity of this component really helps prevent that.2) The flexibility of EVERYTHING to get the coffee just how you want it — brew strength controls quantity of grounds, there’s another control for size of grounds, you can dial quantity of brew cup by cup.3) The location of the water fill area is really convenient4) the fact that you can remove the top component of the grind mechanism (under the hopper) is brilliant for cleaning and preventing clogging.I’m a pedantic bastard and I love this coffee maker. Love it!

Really nice grind and brew coffee maker
Purchased this coffee maker to replace or maybe compare the coffee taste to our Grind and Brew Cuisinart. The Cuisinart works fine but we are coming off a fully automatic cappuccino machine with frothier. This machine was pretty easy to get setup and get running. I will admit the milliliter size cup vs ounces took a minute to work out but this coffee maker is really pretty simple to operate – I will do that calibrate process after I figure out if I need it.. Manual. Basically add beans and water – select size and strength and hit start. What I really wanted was a coffee maker that I could make a full pot and if needed be able to make a cup or two later in the day. I am well aware their are plenty of single cup machines out there when traveling but nothing beats fresh ground coffee. OK, I was spoiled when I lived in Columbia. This machine takes a couple of minutes after hitting start till the coffee starts filling the cup but that isn’t a problem. The brew is worth the wait! The grinder is relatively quiet and if you keep the bean hopper full – you won’t get a weak cup. Really, just add water and beans and wash out the filter. I like this machine just a sliver over the Cuisinart as I like a stronger cup of coffee without being bitter. Aside from that, we will keep both machines for now.. A removable water tank would be really helpful addition as the water fill area is really tight to pour into..

Excellent, convenient grind-and-brew
I have owned a version of this coffee maker for over 4 years now, and I just purchased this new one so that I could move the old one to my office. It’s really phenomenal and is so much easier than grinding and brewing separately. I was a little worried about earlier reviews about the coffee temperature, but if anything, the coffee comes out a little too hot for me. The coffee stays hot in the carafe all day (and is still warm well into the evening, in my experience). The interface is really intuitive, making setting personalized coffee preferences super easy, and the auto-start function is great for setting early-morning coffee. The one thing you really have to do with this coffee maker (and any grind-and-brew coffee maker) is make sure you keep up with the maintenance around the grinding mechanism; use the brush under the bean hopper and clear out the coffee debris as frequently as you can (I don’t know what they recommend, but at least every couple of weeks, if not more frequently). I didn’t keep up with it on my old one, and now there’s just a lot of old, caked on coffee sediment that is stuck on the back of the mechanism that can’t really be removed. Again, though, that was only after 4 years of constant use and relatively inadequate maintenance on my part. I’ve had other grind-and-brew coffee makers that required far more maintenance, though, so this is definitely the best, most efficient, and lowest-maintenance coffee maker I’ve had. Definitely recommend!

I LOVE IT!
I have to say, I”m amazes this coffee maker doesn’t not get all 5 stars all the time. I have gone though 5 Cuisinart Grind and Brew; 2 were warranty replacements and none of them worked well – mostly spilling over and leaving coffee on my counter and floors. I was hesitant to spend more but the Breville but I’m so glad I did. More features and greater flexibility, I can brew one serving if I want. I haven’t but if I want to…I can ;-). Not only can you control the strength but you can also dial in the grind toward getting the flavor your want. Yes, I am a coffee snob and I really like this. Also, a surprise to me because I haven’t found it in the instructions, is that the maker grinds the amount of bean to equal the water you pour in. WOW! Cool! I read all the bad reviews before buying and they almost turned me away but most of them are wrong or they were just lazy people. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for half a day and that’s long enough for me and most, I think. Cleaning it is easy and a pleasure so that I keep getting the flavor I want. I mean, really… how lazy do you need to be not to just clean fine equipment once in a while. I LOVE it and I recommend it. It’s well made, surprisingly quieter than what I’ve had in the past and if you love your coffee and convenience, it is worth every dollar.

Great coffee!
Update:I started out using a paper filter inside of the reusable filter that comes with the coffee maker but coffee grounds would overflow getting into the pot so I stopped using the paper filters. For a while things were great. Now the coffee grounds ALWAYS overflow, getting into the coffee. It gets very frustrating having to throw out the last couple of cups or having to let the grounds settle before taking a drink, letting them settle after taking a drink, letting them settle… Does anyone have any idea what to do about this issue?I didn’t really want to spend this much on a coffee maker but I feel it is well worth it.I’d read the reviews before buying it, saw the good and the bad. The bad: it overflows, a pain to clean, and the way it pours. When mine overflowed, it was my fault. I always make sure that there isn’t any extra water in the carafe when I make coffee. I’ve gotten used to the way it pours, not so hard to pour; take the lid off to tip it up and pour. Yes, it’s basically upside-down but it’s the end of the coffee. No big deal. It’s really not such a big deal cleaning. Do it as soon as the coffee is brewed and it’s easy plus it’s ready to brew when you need/want to brew another pot.Good: the coffee tastes great! When my husband commented on how good the coffee tasted, I knew it’s a winner. I like that I don’t have to get the coffee beans out every time I make coffee. I didn’t pay attention to how many pots of coffee the bean holder holds but it was quite a lot. I was sort of hesitant to get this coffee maker because of there not being a hotplate but we’re impressed with how long it stays hot. It’s been at least 7 hrs! It’s still warm the next day but I do heat my cup of coffee because it’s not hot.I highly recommend this!

The machine’s brewing performance is impressive
The machine’s brewing performance is impressive. The Pre-Brew Temperature Control feature ensures that water is heated to the optimal temperature before it begins brewing, resulting in a consistently flavorful cup of coffee. The coffee is brewed directly into a thermal carafe, which keeps the coffee hot for hours without the need for a hot plate, preserving the flavor and preventing over-extraction.Integrated burr grinder with adjustable grind sizeCustomizable brew strength and grind settingsThermal carafe keeps coffee hot for hoursUser-friendly interface with programmable optionsSleek, durable stainless steel designThe Breville Grind Control Coffee Machine BDC650BSS is an excellent choice for coffee lovers who appreciate the convenience of a grind-and-brew machine and the ability to customize their coffee. With its robust features, attractive design, and solid performance, it’s well-suited for both daily use and special occasions. While it does require a bit of maintenance, the quality of the coffee it produces makes it worth the investment for those serious about their morning brew.

AWESOME – just follow the instructions.
This Breville unit is GREAT. ‘m not someone who writes reviews very often, but, I’ve had this for over a month now and wanted to comment on some of the other reviews I read before I purchased.1) The grinder – while the grinder doesn’t hold a ton of beans (maybe 1/2 lb), I’ve had absolutely 0 problems with the beans feeding down into the grinder, or the grinder getting gummed up, etc. I don’t use flavored coffee beans, which probably helps that problem. I also make sure that I remove the coffee grinds, basket, etc., and rinse it, and most importantly dry it before putting it back in the machine. I imagine any condensation that could get into the grinder area would have negative effects, so following the instructions to rinse and dry after brewing is important.2) The carafe – it keeps coffee warm FOREVER! Ok, maybe not literally. But, I’ve made a pot of coffee almost every morning for the last month, and there’s usually a cup or two left after lunch. It’s still perfectly drinkable, unless like my wife you want it piping hot, in which case about 20 seconds in the microwave warms it up just fine. Yesterday I made a pot, and forgot to empty it later in the day. This morning when I emptied it to make a new pot, I noticed it was still quite warm. I checked it with my instant read thermometer, it was still 102 degrees F! This is more like comfortable hot tub temperature, not coffee drinking temperature, but I’m talking after 24 hours!3) Maintenance – yes, it’s a mechanical device with moving parts, so it needs to be taken care of. But from my experience so far, that really just means keeping it clean. Rinse it out as instructed when your coffee is done brewing, and many of the problems described in the negative reviews go away. Yes, if you leave things sit for 2 days, things will gum up and be difficult to clean. Take 2 minutes and do it right away, and you’ll be fine.Overall … I’m sure there are “professional” setups that would make things easier. But for the price, this has been an excellent purchase for me. Read the manual, you’ll love it.

I feel strongly about this review
Perhaps my beliefs and preferences for coffee will shed some light on my brief review. I enjoy one large cup of coffee per day early in the morning: whether I am commuting to work or headed out to capture sunrise. I believe in strong medium roasted coffee. I believe enhanced coffee flavor comes from using a greater quantity of fresh quality medium roasted beans as opposed to roasting the life out of the bean. I believe in pure water, a touch of fresh cream and turbinado or demerara sugar. I dislike any coffee that turns bright white when challenged with a bit of cream. This coffee maker is great. You can adjust the grind and the weight of coffee to be ground for each cup or carafe. You can adjust how much water is used and the amount of coffee dispensed with adjust automatically based upon the size container for which you selected your water volume.I don’t care about folks complaining that their oily beans sometimes get stuck. My medium roast beans (Lavazza Crema Aroma) don’t get stuck ever.A word of caution: when I first used this machine I referred to the quick start guide and based upon my preferences I selected the finest grind and the strongest (most bean to be ground/cup) and was disappointed in the weakness of the coffee produced. I considered sending it back. I read the full instructions and learned about machine calibration. The calibration said the machine was delivering 24g of ground coffee for the calibration “dose” but I only weighed 13g. Once I completed the calibration, I changed my grind to setting #3 (almost the finest) and kept the strength at 8 (highest) and I am a happy boy. You may wish to buy some quality paper filters if you like to grind your bean finely because the goldtone filter will allow quite a bit of sediment or silt into your cup. Paper filters solve this problem…..if you view it as a problem. THIS IS AN AWESOME MACHINE…….I HAVE NOT SEEN THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF IN OTHER REVIEWS. You will not be disappointed.

Wanted to love it
I’m updating my review, having talked to Breville customer service. Making a larger amount of coffee, 8 cups, for instance, makes it easy to pour. I like strong coffee, and 8 cups at the 8 strength setting gave me a great pot of coffee. If you’re getting watery coffee, tweak the ratio of water to beans. If you’re having trouble pouring, don’t try unlocking the carafe, trust me, it’s not going to help.

Best coffee ever. It does take a little work to keep it clean but it makes a great cup.

Best cup of coffee! So happy with purchase-
I am so glad that I took a chance and purchased this coffee machine. My husband loved the convenience of his K cup machine. I hated the flavor of the coffee… no matter which brand of k-cup. I started making my own K cup with ground coffee. It was fine until I wanted another cup and then another cup. This machine makes excellent coffee by the cup and by the pot. i converted my hubs to a “pot o’ coffee” drinker! The flavor and strength is perfect. It takes a few more minutes to clean than a k cup machine, but then we are not throwing out all of these plastic pods. I can’t stress enough how much better the flavor of coffee is with this machine. It really is the best coffee maker I have ever owned. I am a big fan of the Breville brand. I have quite a few small appliances and have never been disappointed. But I can’t say how much this has changed my morning. I look forward to my delicious cup o’ joe each morning… no creamer, no sugar- just a fresh hot cup of coffee. So good. I can’t recommend this machine enough. I must clarify that is is not as easy as a cup machine, but it is worth the extra 2 steps. Also, I have seen complaints that the coffee is not hot enough. As with any machine that has a carafe instead of a glass jar- the metal carafe is cold. If you heat up the carafe with hot water, it will stay hot for hours. So as the bean grind, I run hot water into the carafe, pour it out, and then place in the seat for the coffee to brew. This practice keeps the coffee hot for quite a while. Takes a minute, but is totally worth it. I had to do this with previous carafe coffee makers. So this is not a problem with this machine. So glad I purchased… it renewed my love for good, hot coffee.

Still Love This Machine
OK, now I’ve had this for a while and can respond to folks who say it breaks down. It will make weak coffee unless, as per instructions, you clean the place where the ground coffee leaves the grinder every 2 or 3 uses. Doing that — I had to download the manual to figure this out — requires unlocking and removing the bean hopper while the strainer is still attached and the machine is powered on. Once you open the door and take the strainer off, the silver wheel will turn to reveal the spout you must clean. If this is too much of a hassle for you, don’t buy this machine (but the Cuisinart also needs a similar cleaning, so maybe self-grinding isn’t for you). With the spout clear, the machine makes superior drip coffee. I’m not sure how often you have to do this if you make just a cup or two, or make weaker coffee — in my house, we set it for 9 cups of strong coffee (setting 6 on the dial). We love this coffee maker!EARLIER REVIEW:I bought this to replace the Cuisinart self-grinding unit that finally broke after many years of use. Gotta say, the Breville makes much better coffee. I love all the bells and whistles like selecting grind size and a water dispenser that tells you how much is in there. Haven’t yet tried single cup, but it looks like a pain as one would have to rinse out the grounds basket after each cup. It’s strongly advised to take a few minutes to run the hot water and heat up the carafe before brewing — coffee then stays hot for a very long time, much longer than the ol’ Cuisinart. I’ve seen all the reviews about this breaking down over time; I’ve only had this for a couple of weeks so can’t comment on durability. But there aren’t all that many moving parts (simpler than Cuisinart) and the ground-coffee chute is a very clever design.

Best coffee machine
I’ve been using the Breville Coffee Machine for a while now, and I have to say, it’s exceeded all my expectations. Not only does it deliver excellent performance, but it’s also incredibly easy to use and calibrate. One of the standout features for me is the preheating of the water, which ensures that each cup of coffee is brewed at the perfect temperature for maximum flavor extraction. This attention to detail really makes a difference in the quality of the coffee produced.Another aspect that I love is the control over the grind size. Being able to adjust the grind size allows me to customize my coffee to my exact preferences, whether I’m in the mood for a bold espresso or a smooth drip brew. It’s like having a barista-quality coffee shop right in my own kitchen. The machine itself is well-built and feels sturdy, with intuitive controls that make navigating through the settings a breeze. Cleanup is also a cinch, thanks to the removable components that are dishwasher-safe.Overall, the Breville Coffee Machine has become an indispensable part of my morning routine. If you’re serious about your coffee and want a machine that delivers consistently delicious results, look no further. Highly recommended!

Great Coffee Maker
INITIAL REVIEW – FEBRUARY 4, 2016I just received this product last night and am writing an initial review which I will update over time.I’m a big fan of Breville products, over the last year and a half I have purchased the following:Breville MicrowaveBreville Food ProcessorBreville ToasterBreville Fast/Slow Pro Pressure cookerAll of these items are performing well and I’ve not had any issues with any of them so far.I had a Cuisinart K-Cup type coffee maker for the last four years which worked well (surprisingly) but I was ready to move up a bit and get something that would grind beans and make a better cup of coffee – after looking at Breville options I choose this item.As with all Breville products I really like the large LCD displays they put in their products – this is a big selling point for me. I also like the buttons on their machines, they are solid, quality and illuminated.I was very tired of the loud water pump sound that my old Cuisinart unit would make each time I made a cup of coffee, which is one of the reasons I was tired of it. This is no longer an issue – as this Breville doesn’t make that crazy loud water pump sound which I’m sure most of you are familiar with. The bean grinder does of course make some noise – but it seems to be more quiet to me than that water pump sound on my old Cuisinart. While I typically make only a cup at a time I like to know that on the weekends when I may want a couple cups the carafe can be used. It seems very nicely made. I agree with others in that when pouring out the liquid there is a small lip on the inside that makes it hard to get the last few drops of water when cleaning it – I solve this by simply placing a paper towel inside the carafe to absorb that last bit of water. The auto-on feature is very nice – I used it this morning – set it for 6:03 a.m. and sure enough as I was making breakfast it started up grinding coffee and brewing. I made sure I had a cup on the machine and filter in the basket, which I did the night before. The countdown timer is great – it lets me know exactly where it is at in the process and how much time is remaining until my coffee is ready. The display is easy and very intuitive – never had an issue with any Breville products in this regard – easy to understand.Overall I love this coffee-maker even though I’ve only had it one day so far – if it lives up to the performance of all my other Breville items I’m sure I’ll be happy.I was afraid it would look a bit large on my counter as some images I’ve seen appear that way – but it works very nicely and doesn’t seem huge to me.I was also afraid that it would require a lot of daily cleaning compared to my old Cuisinart which barely needed any. However, it seems quite easy to pop out the basket, rinse it in water, and wipe the back of the grinder after each use. I’ll plan to clean the hopper area once every couple weeks and descale as necessary – it’s not as formidable a task as I thought it might be.My only wish for this item is that it had a slightly larger water reservoir so that I would not have to fill it quite as frequently.I’ll update this review over the next few months with more of my experiences.

Really Awesome once you figure out some of its quirks
I never write reviews, but this thing gets a bad rep in so many reviews I had to put this out there.Ive had this coffee maker over 4 years. It took me a few years to figure out what it does great and what it does alright. I’ll come out and say it right off the bat, I do really love this coffee pot. I can come downstairs and have freshly ground and ready to drink coffee the minute I get up in the morning. The coffee will stay hot in the Carafe for an hour+ and pleasantly warm for 2-3 hours depending on how much you make. The ability to change the grind size for different types of beans and coffee amounts are great at this price point. Also have to shout out the user interface being easy to understand, program, and use on a day to day basis. the burrs have held up extremely well and ive never really done anything to clean them out other than an occasional wipe down when doing a full cleaning on.It has some quirks, for example, you have to basically turn it upside down to get that last cup of coffee out of the pot. You also have to calibrate the grinder before use, which will require a kitchen scale to weigh the output from the grinder. I didn’t know this for the first 2 years and always thought the brew came out weak, so the strength was always set to the max.NOW….The downsides to this machine are the cleaning and the maintenance. If you run super dark roasts or cheap coffee (Looking at you bulk bag Costco Coffee) through this thing its A PAIN IN THE ASS. The dark roasts or beans with lots of oils will jam this thing up so bad. You’ll be taking it apart after ever every other pot to clean out the chute and get it working properly. Once I had more money to throw at getting roastery true light and medium roasts I only have to clean it out like every 10 pots or so, its crazy how much of a difference it makes. It also really struggles to very small or very large amounts of coffee. Due to needing to calibrate the machine it will make more or less coffee then it does stock. When I first got it and didnt calibrate, it would make super weak small 2 cup runs. Once calibrated though, it grinded through more coffee than the basket would hold and grinds would flow over into my brewed coffee. A little annoying to say the least. If 4.5 stars was an option thats what I would give it. It really shines when your making 4-8 cups of coffee with decent beans, but it doesn’t do everything it advertises.

Hard to maintain, but worth it!
I’ve been wanting a quality coffee maker that grinds the beans right before brewing, and I’m happy I went with this one. It makes a great cup of coffee. It has both single cup option or brewing a pot. It is easy to use and navigate through all of the different options. The downside to this coffee maker is mostly cleaning. It does take some time to clean the machine, and the brew basket and carafe. If you are lazy, don’t get this coffee maker. I remember seeing comments from people on here about cleaning, and if you really want great coffee, you won’t mind the cleaning. The only other downside to it is the single cup option makes a weaker cup no matter what. I put it on the strongest option, and it still isn’t strong enough. Maybe Breville will make a similar model that would be easier to clean and makes a stronger single cup. It is pretty loud when it starts grinding the beans before the brew, but that doesn’t really bother me that much. Maybe they can work on making that more quiet. All around, this is a great product, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone! Plus it looks great in my kitchen!

Improvements
We’ve been a Breville customer for almost 20 yrs and have a LOT of their appliances. This is our 3rd grind/brew system. Our previous unit lasted over five years with daily, and sometimes twice daily use. We noted two improvements in this version over the last ones: 1) loosened the fit on the carafe cover…now much easier to open/close. 2) slowed down the grid speed…significantly less noise and also keeps most all of the coffee grin in the basket vs the older model that left grind on the lid. Overall, very pleased with this unit.

Push button freshness!
I have higher-end espresso and pour-over coffee station things. Nerdy kind of attention to function. But my mom of sisters come over to play cards and they want coffee on demand and I simply go to the Grind Control convenience (true with almost EVERY Breville appliance!), push the button and serve freshly ground drip (pour over-ish) coffee. They know i have all of this coffee equipment and rave about how much better this is than their pod machines at home. I try to explain how comparably convenient and easy-to-use this coffee machine is but they haven’t crossed over…yet. Breville has designed this conventional home drip coffee machine with so many user-control preferences and expanded its range of coffee delivery to the point that I am not ashamed to display it among my sophisticated coffee station wares. I am very pleased with its function and flavors.

The best coffee maker I have ever had.
This review is one day after purchasing. So, I do not know how long it will last, but it has a good warranty.I put Starbucks seasonal beans in. Brewed my first 14 ounce cup with the timer in the morning. It was great waking up smelling freshly ground beans and brew! I like my coffee a little stronger so I set the strength to 7. Coffee was spot on! Without any other adjustments I hit the buttery smooth mark.It makes you clean out the basket before brewing a new cup. Happily, this is so easy. Press the button and the basket module easily slips out for cleaning. Some things I noticed right away.(1) default units are mL. We are in the US man, it should be oz. Happily, you can change the units in the menus.(2) Filling water requires a decanter. But, be careful when filling. Water splashes all over and marks up the stainless finish with water marks. I find that irritating. Not enough to drop it down in stars though.(3) Setting the clock and auto timer is a little painful. You have to use a single knob. There are two knobs on the unit … one should set hours and the other should set minutes. That would be so much easier then spinning the single know (seemingly for ever) hopefully they will fix that.(4) I know people might disagree with this one. But, we live in an area where the water is so hard, the softener adjustment has to be maxed out. Because of this, I prefer to use RO water instead of our crappy water … but supposedly this unit won’t work with RO water. I will have to verify this. I feel something like that is electronics gone amok.(5) The stainless coffee pot is nice. It is insulated and locks tight to keep the coffee warm forever. You do have to turn it upside down almost to get all the coffee (or water) out of it. Not a big deal for me, I prefer single 14 oz coffee mugs and rarely use a pot.So far, after one day, this is way better than the Keurig it replaced. The only things about the Keurig I miss are the easy fill plastic water tank and the k-cups for easy cleaning. But, the green side of me likes not filling the landfill with k-cups … so that issue is a wash.

Almost 2 years and still going strong. Great coffee!
I wanted a good coffee maker for my office, but didn’t want the mess of having a separate grinder. After doing some research, I bought this Breville with the integrated grinder almost 2 years ago and have loved it ever since. My use case: Daily 1-2 pots that I share with co-workers, with an occasional post-lunch single 16 oz cup. I tend toward medium beans, and use cold, unfiltered, very hard water. Basically exactly what the manual tells you not to do.Pros:Amazing taste. I was using a Capresso Infinity grinder with a standard Mr. Coffee drip, and this was significantly better. I think there’s some lost aromatics in just the few minutes between grind and brew with a standard set up. Or it could be confirmation bias, as I haven’t done a double-blind study.Versatile. I also am amazed at the difference the grind and strength settings make. Sometimes I get a new bean and it’s a bit on the bitter side, so I increase the grind size and strength and it’s like a different coffee! I’ve never used the calibration, I just use trial and error.Easy to use. The interface is intuitive. The one thing I would recommend is to ditch the included gold filter and go with regular paper, it makes cleanup a lot easier, and I prefer the taste. It tells you when to descale, which in my case is about 1-2 times per year. Completely automated and takes ~40 minutes, then you’ll want to run another pot or 2 of clean water to remove residual vinegar.Vacuum carafe. Avoiding the burned taste from a heating element is incredible. After about 1 hour on my old Mr. Coffee, the coffee tasted bad. This does not. One caveat, if you want to keep it hot for more than about 3-4 hours, you should pre-heat the carafe with hot water before brewing. If you do that, it’s good for ~8 hours.Cost. Although the unit itself is expensive, I calculated a pot to cost me about $1 with locally roasted beans from Costco, at about $16 for 2 lbs. Compared to even cheap pods, this thing has already paid for itself.Cons.Cleaning. Really, it’s not too bad, but more than pods. Any grinder/brewer combo will have a chute that needs cleaning. Depending on the bean type, cleaning is about 1-2 times a week. Pop off the bean hopper, open the basket, and use the included brush to wipe out the chute. With really oily, dark roasts, this 30 second task becomes a necessary daily routine, but with my medium roasts it can be up to 2 weeks. Sometimes there’s some hard packed stuff around the edge I break off with my fingers. If you don’t keep up on this, it can get clogged, which is obvious by the sound of the grinder. About every two weeks, I use wet paper towel to clean the stainless valve disc and the tray under the carafe. About 1-2 times per year, I empty all of the beans, take out the top part of the burr grinder, and really go at it with the included brush. When I first got the thing, it got clogged so I thought I had to do that every time and was annoyed, but I’ve since learned that a quick chute cleaning is all that’s regularly needed. One quirk is that the valve only opens automatically if the unit is not in standby. If the LED backlight isn’t on, push one of the knobs to turn it on. Then when you take off the bean hopper and open the basket, the valve will open.Noise. I don’t think there’s any noise mitigation on the grinder, but it’s not any louder than my Capresso. Some of the super automatics are a lot quieter though.Cost. Upfront cost is high. It was worth it to me, though. When I’m on vacation, I miss it quite a bit.

I’ve used this literally almost every day for 5.5 years…
I think I finally have this figured out. I guess most people put in the beans, place the carafe, select the cups and strength and push start. That will work for a few days and then you’ll have problems. Eventually the chute will get clogged and the grinder will slow and you’ll get 2 cups of grounds for 8 cups of coffee. You’ll need to take a few minutes to clean out the chute and then repeat on a week or two Longer term, coffee grounds get stuck under a rotating disc that blocks and unblocks the chute allow grounds to go from the grinder to the filter. Then it can get stuck and cause problems when trying to descale (it rotates a lot during that process).I think I finally have it down. Not completely automatic but still easier than a separate grinder and the coffee tastes good so I deal with it.Fill the water and bean hopper, set the cups and strength, and press Start. After grinding finishes, press cancel. Open the filter and quickly wipe the grounds off the chrome disc and tap the filter and holder so the grounds for completely into the filter. Set the cups to the same amount and strength to preground and start the brew. When done, be sure to wipe the chrome disc of moisture and try to get a little under the disc and remove some grounds from the edge. Doing this, I’ve been cleaning the chute after 2 or 3 months (instead of one or two weeks). I’ve also noticed the grounds under the disc seem to have been reduced over time little by little. Worth a little extra effort every day to avoid bigger problems that always seem to happen when you’re running late.I figure I save $6 a day for two people because I make a little extra for an iced coffee in the afternoon assuming $2.50 a cup saved and $.50 a cup spent on beans). Add it up and I saved about $12k. I’ll buy an expensive coffee maker if that’s the return on investment.

Meets all my expectations
2021 When my Cuisinart DGB-550 started leaking a month ago, I dealt with it for several weeks while I researched the best grinding coffee maker to meet my needs. I enjoyed my 2 exact same Cuisinarts for about 20 years. They worked great and fit the needs of myself and my two coffee drinking daughters, as well as guests we occasionally entertain. Now that my daughters are grown and have left the nest, I really wanted a coffee maker that would make one cup at a time, but my husband (who doesn’t drink coffee – gasp!) insisted that I still needed a thermos carafe for the times my daughters or other guests were visiting. I read reviews for days and this coffee maker ended up being the only one that had the three features I wanted: fresh ground coffee, a thermos carafe and the ability to make a single serving straight into a mug. However, it did cost twice as much as my old Cuisinart, but so far it has been worth it.It took a few tries to get the grind, strength and size of the cup just right, but now it makes me a perfect, large cup of coffee every morning in under 4 minutes (It does leave a little water in the basket – I usually depress the brew pause drip stop a few times to get as much out as possible). I drink my coffee black so I set it on the largest cup setting to fill it to the top of my mug. When my daughter visited, we went for a smaller serving size so she could add cream and sugar. I love that I don’t have to measure the beans and refill the water reservoir every day.I’m not sure what the complaints are about cleaning. I rinse out my basket every day and leave it in the drainer to dry. If I have time, I wipe the plate that covers the coffee grind chute and the surface with a damp cloth or paper towel (not every day!). I didn’t wait for the machine to tell me it needed cleaning(which is one of the features). Instead, after 3 weeks, I followed the instructions and cleaned the machine easily. I think I will just clean it around the 15th of every month to keep it running optimally. With my Cuisinart, I used to have to clean (or at least rinse out) the grinder, the basket, and the carafe every day. The grinder would also become damp with condensation and the ground coffee would stick to it and make a mess. The daily clean up of this Breville Grind Control is so much easier! To assure you that this is a genuine review, my only negative is that my travel mugs are too big to fit even when I remove the drip tray. However, really not a negative since my travel mugs were almost as old as my old coffee maker so it is probably time for me to replace them:) If anything changes I will update my review. Hope other people enjoy this coffee maker as much as I am!

Most-Used Small Appliance; I love it
I have been using this nearly every day for the past year and have been extremely happy with it.I read through many of the positive reviews and most of the negative reviews prior to purchasing. A few reviewers reported their machine started smoking. From what I remember, the reviewers whose machines started smoking said they were using the timer function on the machine. I don’t leave my small appliances plugged in when they are not being used and have not had any issues with machine smoking.I also recall a review that indicated the water overflowed from the pot. I had one time that I almost had this issue. I thought I would be proactive and refill the water tank while the current pot was brewing. When it finished brewing the 12 cups that I selected to be brewed, it kept going. I no longer try to refill the tank until after it is finished.Another reviewer mentioned they were disappointed they couldn’t get all the coffee out of the pot, but I have found that I am able to get everything except maybe a teaspoon or two. I do need to tilt the pot pretty far forward to get the last 1/4 cup or so.My usual process is to empty the filter and rinse all the pieces (filter, filter holder, pot) the next morning before I brew my next cup because the coffee grinds are still too hot when I leave and I take half the coffee in a travel mug and leave the other half for my husband who is usually up after I am out of the house, so the pot is not empty until later in the morning.Coffee stays hot for a few hours, and is still warm 7 hours after it is brewed. To make it easier to empty the filter, I use a canning funnel set inside a canister. The funnel and canister are set up right next to the brewer. The filter, when turned upside down fits perfectly within the funnel and I am able to empty the grinds into something cleaner than the trash can. I would prefer to use the grinds in the garden, but we don’t currently have a garden. It takes 2-3 minutes to rinse everything and prepare it for the next pot of coffee.I should probably deep clean it more frequently, but it tends to be deep cleaned (take bean hopper out, clean out grinding element, brush out chute, etc) every 1-2 months. The brush it comes with works ok, but to clean out the chute I use a brush that is similar to a bottle brush but smaller and softer.A few times a week I use a soft brush and mild dish soap to clean the filter, filter holder, and pot. I descale the brewer ~every 2 months.Overall this has been a great purchase, great value for the $, and I believe has saved time and money. Prior to this purchase we used our pod brewer (not sure I can mention other brands in reviews) every day, going through 2-3 pods a day. We still have the pod brewer and it’s used maybe once a week now.

Perfect Coffee
I have had this for about a year and a half now, and it works perfectly. I use it daily and have never had any problems others have experienced. I clean it regularly and descale when prompted. It was one of the more reasonably priced built-in grinder coffee makers, looks very nice, and makes delicious coffee!

Single-cup mode fabulous!
This does a good job in multi-cup carafe mode, grinding the beans into the drip-basket and then dripping water to percolate through to fall into the carafe. Most of the goodness there is due to the fresh-ground beans, the drip basket works no different than a pure drip maker that does not grind as well.BUT, in single-cup mode (click on the number of cups control to switch), the behavior is different. The valve that is used to prevent drips when the carafe is removed is used to contain the water in the drip-basket with the grounds to steep for a while. This gives a flavor more like an immersion brewer than like a pour-over/drip brewer. Think Hario Switch/Clever Dripper/French Press as a flavor example. Much more full flavor than standard percolation. Worth the trouble to swap out filter papers with every mug of coffee!Paper filters give better results than the goldtone filter provided. On cleaning: the drip basket has a opening at the back which allows the grinder to fling the grounds into the basket/filter. There is a shiny plate that rotates to close this off while actually brewing. The grinds tend to leave a coating on the top inside of the basket, so between brews, must rinse off the whole basket and dry it to clean out this area as well as replace the filter. It removes easily, so not too hard. Every few weeks, must gently scrape coffee dregs from the shiny plate. I recommend using a plastic razor blade so as to not scratch the plate.

The SECRET to Coffee House Quality Coffee at Home!
The media could not be loaded.
Here is the Standard Review of the Breville Grind Control Coffee Machine, BDC650BSS in Brushed Stainless Steel. This Breville Coffee machine is the SECRET to coffee house quality coffee at home. My blood type is basically coffee (if this resonated with you… you know). I cannot function properly without a solid cup of high octane coffee. The Breville Grind Control includes a built-in conical burr grinder to ensure maximum freshness and flavor extraction with each cup. You can also customize your brew with 8 strength settings providing light, medium and bold flavor profiles. The Breville can brew anywhere from one to twelve cups of coffee. As a coffee nut, this is hands down the best coffee machine for high quality coffee at home.

We are Brevilleivers!
I wanted a coffee machine that would grind my beans whenever I wanted a cup and this Breville machine does just that! It brews a cup, an entire pot and everything in between! You can select your grind size (I’ve just gone with the suggested size so far and haven’t needed to change it) and strength of coffee. You fill it with water if there’s not enough in reserve for the amount your wanting to brew (the machine tells you!), make sure you have beans in the hopper (we probably refill every other day) and press start! It smells sooooo good! We have been using the basket that came with the machine instead of paper filters, which can also be used. But we have produced so much less trash than when using our cup pod machine. Do make sure the carafe or cup is in place before setting the morning timer though….did that once and it was not pretty! A couple of things to note: it is tall. We are lucky enough to have an area in our cupboards that is raised so it fits in nicely. There is not a heater but the carafe is metal and retains heat well (once had a still warm cup at noon after initial brew at 6am). You do have to obviously clean the filter and the carafe every time, but also have you wipe out the grinder area which my husband never remembers to do. Nothing a damp cloth can’t fix later. But I can honestly say we love it! My husband was sceptical but he too now is a Brevilleiver!

Third time’s the charm: Breville NAILED IT
This is my third model in more than a decade. My last model was a step back from my first, earning only two stars. They have since tweaked production and the current model rocks with 5 stars. Two improvements are notable. First, the grinding motor has been upgraded and is noticeably more powerful. As a result, it runs at a lower RPM and is much quieter.Second, they have adjusted the steam and heat management. The chute is not clogging anything like it used to. Best practice remains to remove and discard the wet grounds as soon as the beeper goes off, but even when I forget, the machine continues to operate. I haven’t had a clogged chute in weeks.Kudos to Breville for the continuing improvements. I can recommend without hesitation.Older review:This is my second Breville, the first I had for many years until it wore out. This model comes with one very nice improvements: better selection switches, more intuitive menu. However, it is also a bit more finicky. The chute for ground coffee to drop into the basket clogs more easily than my last model. The best and only solution I have found is to immediately open the basket up as soon as the machine beeps to indicate “all done”. That prevents steam from getting into the chute and forming a gummy residue with coffee particles in the chute. Get used to manually clearing every couple of weeks as well–you will begin to get attuned to the grinding sound when beans are flowing through the hopper as opposed to when the chute is clogged and beans are not being ground. That said, I did give the machine a one star deduction but otherwise I love itMay 2018 update: knocking off a star 4 down to 3; the grind (course grind to fine grind) knob has failed and the grinder is stuck on “1”, leaving a frequently bitter grind. As this unit was purchased August 2015 for nearly $300, this is aDisappointment for such a costly item.

Love this machine!
This is my 2nd Breville. When my first one died after 5 years, I got a Capresso. Big mistake. Messy machine. Anyone who complains about cleaning the Breville didn’t own one of these. Yes. You have to clean it. But I never had to do the cleaning a lot of people complained about. Just keep an eye on the chute. The coffee pot spring on the Capresso broke. I could have got another pot. But it was a sign! Any excuse will do. Glad I got another Breville. Less mess, coffees so much better.

EXCELLENT COFFEE, but expect to spend some time cleaning and taking care of the machine.
Ok – I waited 3 weeks to write this review. The price tag was very intimidating for me, but after 3 coffee makers that we just didn’t like the engineering on, I was ready to spend a little more money.I’ve always liked the idea of a grind and brew machine. Fresh ground coffee just tastes better. I’ve also been disappointed in the temperature of coffee after brewing, especially with insulated carafes. My first impression of this machine was that it was very well engineered. I am in the manufacturing business, and I can recognize when things are well designed. There were a few things that were slightly annoying, but each seemed to have a good reasoning behind it.I expected it would take a few days to find the right settings (coarse/fine grind, brew strength) and it did. The first two days were less than perfect. Once we got the settings right (medium ground, high brew strength) – the coffee was impressive. The flavor is grand – the “infusion” process really works. The convenience factor is huge – but I’m not willing to give up a hot, tasty cup of coffee for convenience.Cleaning is a little challenging. Figure on spending a while cleaning it each night and getting it ready for the next morning, and cleaning the hopper and other parts at least once a week. If you don’t like disassembling the coffee maker to make sure it’s serviced properly, this isn’t the unit for you. This is a relatively high maintenance unit, but it will produce a consistent and HOT flavorful cup of coffee if you take care of it properly.Overall, this is the best coffee maker we have owned. It takes a little effort to maintain, but it delivers every time if you take care of it.Some of the other reviews seem very very picky to me, and some aren’t very thorough. I don’t spend a lot of time writing reviews on here, but I thought this one was worth posting. If I could give it 4.75 stars, I would. But this is a good machine. We are glad we spent the money. If anything changes, I’ll post an update.Cheers!

Best coffee in 20 years
After reading a gazillion reviews on different grind and brew models I put my faith in this one on a Used – Very Good condition unit. Thanks to reading so many reviews, I understood how important it is to read and follow the entire instruction/owners manual. I did that yesterday and today (it’s a bit of effort to get it to brew-ready (but so worth it)) and just had my third attempt’s output and OMG this is the best coffee, in or out, that I have had in 20 years or more. When I ordered this brewer I also ordered Lavazza Super Crema beans not realizing they are an espresso roast. My first and second attempts at brewing were with the local supermarket brand’s beans which were really oily (shiny) and the coffee sucked. I decided to ditch the cheap beans and calibrated for the Lavazza Super Crema and it doesn’t even matter that it was an espresso roast. BEST HOME COFFEE EVER IN MY LIFE. If you have time to put in the amount of effort anyone that really loves coffee would put in for a great cup of coffee, then I highly recommend this item. I can’t wait to wake up to heavenly coffee tomorrow. 💯 recommend but only if you’re not lazy!

Great Coffee and Easy to Use
I have had the Breville Grind Control now for just over a month, and so far, I am impressed and very satisfied with the appearance and functionality of this unit. Breville provides the ability to adjust virtually ever aspect of the coffee brewing process from the size of the grinds, to the strength of the brew. It’s bigger than some other machines, but looks great on the counter. As far as keeping the coffee hot, no problem here. We usually finish a carafe within 90 minutes, and the coffee remains more than hot enough. Pouring is a little trickier than some, but with a little practice it’s actually quite efficient and not messy. Some reviews have said it’s difficult to clean, but I haven’t found that to be the case. If you clean, on a daily basis, the carafe, the removable filter basket, and the small disc through which the grounds feed into the basket, it’s no trouble at all. No worse than any other grind and brew I’ve owned. The grinding mechanism is actually much quieter than my previous machine. You’ll know it’s working, but it’s not overly distracting. Just add water, beans, and “go”. It’s simple and brews a full carafe in about 10-12 minutes. I haven’t used the single cup feature, but it looks to be useful if you’re just wanting to brew a travel mugs worth. One improvement I would like to see is the ability to easily remove the metal disc through which the grounds flow in order to be able to clean the back side.

Works great!
I was a little timid about purchasing the screens! I am so happy that I gave in. This product is ideal for gamers and for the average person on the go who has to juggle between travel and work. It also has a complete menu screen that you can adjust to your liking. It’s literally a clip and go and if you don’t want to clip to your laptop, it also has a stand! Finally, I had a question and the customer service was prompt to answer!Thank you 🙏

So, yeah, I, talk to my coffee brewer…
UPDATE: Year 8… RIP to my Breville Grind Control Coffee Brewer which lasted 7 years, 10 months. Honestly I’d have been happy had it lasted 2 years when I first bought it considering I was going through 3-4 brewers per year for a few years prior to buying the Grind Control. The machine technically still worked when I retired it due to a tank leakage I’d neglected to acknowledge that led to a rust build-up on the bottom of the unit. More rust than I wanted to deal with removing. Also, it was looking rather worn after producing so many cups of coffee over so many years. In the nearly 8 years of using the Grind Control I also started drinking and making different coffee brew methods such as French Press, Moka, Pour Over and Espresso. With all those options I afforded myself the time to research and read reviews on other automatic coffee brewers before buying another machine. Nothing seemed to compare to the Grind Control features wise though. So I read the reviews here as well. Not sure where all the hate directed towards this machine comes from. So. Some people overstate how difficult the cleanup is. Cleaning the Grind Control is similar to cleaning an espresso machine. If you want good coffee but feel like maintaining a machine is to complicated, it’s probably best to buy your coffee somewhere. You can start cleaning the Grind Control as soon as the grinder stops moving – just unlock it, remove the hopper and as many beans as needed to be able to remove the grinder, remove the rest ov the beans and clean this area with a brush during the brewing cycle. Use a pipe cleaner to clear the 3 holes in both the top and bottom grinder sections. Once your coffee is ready, take a sip or two then put it on a warming plate while you take a few minutes to brush the grinding chute clean and wipe the entire machine clean with a damp microfiber cloth and wash the filter basket and all removable parts. Pat dry the spout where the water flows into the basket, just above the grinding chute as well since this area can acquire a mineral build-up that can affect the taste of your brew. After a few months of research and having no coffee from a drip machine, I bought my second Breville Grind Control 8 years and 2 months after the first. I’ve been using it for a month now and I’ve certainly missed this coffee. I’m maintaining the new machine better after each use than I did – some of the steps I listed I didn’t do before. The only time I ever disassembled the grinder mechanism on the first machine was during the descaling process. I do use very dark beans though, and since I’ve grown accustomed to deep cleaning an espresso machine after regular use, I’ve noticed details about cleaning this machine I neglected before that when done regularly, produce a better brew. Also with this new machine, I only use the included basket instead of paper filters. This method delivers a brew consistency closer to a French Press, which is sort of what the Grind Control is – an electric French Press…… … … End of Year 8 Update… … ….UPDATE: FIVE (5) Years Later… I Still use this machine daily, usually for at least 2 single serve cups of various size, depending on the mug I’m using that day. Occasionally I’ll brew a pot, either when I have guests, or the day after I run the Decalcification cycle, which I just ran today. The machine has a censor that tells when to clean, but rather than waiting, I prefer to clean every 6 weeks. In addition to the brush provided, I use a bamboo picnic knife to scrape inside of the chute to remove more grinds. Compressed Air is useful as well when doing a deep clean of the machine which I do twice a year ((OUTSIDE)). With the hopper removed (and excess beans) I spray the compressed air through the chute and the grinder (top half removed). Vinegar-soaked paper towels help remove ground coffee built up around the grinder and in the chute. Allow to air-dry, and reassemble. …(End of 5 Year UPDATE)…The Breville Grind control is the best product with an electric cord I have ever purchased. I first saw it at the mall, and upon inspection it was clear it was designed for people who really enjoy coffee, by people who really enjoy coffee. The display model was the only one in stock, and the next store did not have it either. I logged onto Amazon when I got home, and 4 days later it arrived. The next morning, just over 2 weeks before my 42nd birthday, I tasted the coffee I always wanted but never was attainable. The ability to brew as few as one to as many as 12 cups is awesome. Before work I only have time for one cup, usually 350 ml. On days off I fill the entire carafe, and after more than 3 hours, the last mug is still a very drinkable and tasty temperature. For a single cup, which I enjoy black, I use strength setting 8 (strongest), and grind setting 1 (finest). For a carafe I use 3 on the grind setting. For after work, I found it quite easy to make an even stronger brew by starting the machine just long enough to grind beans for a 295 ml cup. Stop, open and close the brew basket door, adjust the grind for 235 ml cup, and within a few minutes I have a great base for whatever espresso type drink I have attempted to make. I purchased a separate milk frothing/steaming machine, so now when I visit the local Coffee House it is only to buy beans.Clean up is easy. Barely 2 minutes of rinsing and wiping. The longer it sits, the tougher it is to wipe the release disk, but I’ve not been so lazy yet that it has been bothersome. This past weekend I performed the descale process for the first time. It was simple and the machine is programmed to allow plenty of deep cleaning time. The previous brewer I owned was a single cup grind and brew system. It made a decent cup of coffee, but was no where near as hot or good. Clean up was tougher as the actual grinders had to be rinsed and dried after each cup. After a few months, the pressure point on the lid of the grinder popped off, cracking the lid. I made it work for a few weeks until I found the Breville Grind Control.Honestly, the coffee is so tasty I actually thank the machine as soon as the brew process is complete. The only downside? I work at a Diner and usually allow myself whatever coffee I can manage to sip until 10 a.m. I just can’t taste it anymore. It tastes vaguely like that sip of decaf I mistakenly had a couple years ago, and as such, leaves me asking, why? Why would anyone drink this? Well, I for one, am currently devising an iced coffee recipe for my Grind Control so I will no longer have to.I paid full price for my Breville Grind Control, and have neither requested nor received compensation for my honest review. It has had no performance issues so far and I am extremely satisfied with the purchase. The photos are of a latte macchiato, from start, to beginning of the end, made using the Grind Control and separate frothing machine. If you need a new coffee brewer and you really enjoy coffee, this is the machine you need.

Excellent Coffee with Daily Light Maintenance Required
First, the quality of the coffee is very good, and the temperature is higher than most home-use coffee makers. The conical burr grinder is effective and not overly loud in operation. The coffee hopper works best when full. If not full, you may need to distribute the beans so that they are toward the front of the machine, where it pulls them in by design. Not sure why Breville made the chute this way, but they did.The carafe is good and convenient to use, except that it inevitably makes getting the last 1/4 cup of coffee out very awkward and difficult. Which is odd but no big deal. The automatic functions work exactly as designed, and reliably — IF you do some very light daily maintenance after every use. First, you must take a moist paper towel (or with windex) and wipe off the disk behind the coffee filter holder, removing all grounds and residue. This takes less than one minute. Second, you must thoroughly rinse the coffee basket and (MOST IMPORTANT PART HERE) dry it *thoroughly” — especially the silicon inlet and entry chute on the side where the ground coffee shoots into the basket. If you do not dry that intake thoroughly, you will have coffee buildup and problems.Third, you should periodically (I did it every day) clear the small removable tray below the coffee shoot. It says “Clean Me” in case you forget.Does that sound like a lot of maintenance? To me, it does not. But then, this coffee maker is standing in for a more complicated coffee system that is being repaired. One bad thing did happen that was user error: The highly flexible, silicon grommet where the coffee chute blows coffee into the basket was out of shape when the coffee maker was reassembled. This blew coffee all over the place and was a pain to clean. But that was totally my fault for not paying attention.I guess, in sum, this coffee maker is NOT for people who prefer only to fill a machine with water, flip a switch, and throw out a used coffee filter afterwards. But this coffee maker IS for people who appreciate the fresh and good quality it produces; who do not mind very light daily maintenance; and who are able to pay even modest attention to ensuring it is assembled correctly so that it will operate as designed. The cups measurement: Six cups designated on the machine equal just a little over 2.5 standard coffee mugs full. So a full pot will give 5 people a mug of coffee. It is cool that you can brew right into a tall travel mug, and even a single cup. I personally find the cleaning overhead for producing a single cup a little silly and wasteful, so always brew at least a 1/2 pot.Not the easiest coffee maker to use, I suppose, but one that produces a good, quality product with what I think is a very light-duty cleaning regimen. In short: Not for lazy coffee drinkers.

3+ Years, Amazing Brewer
I was hesitant to buy this initially, since it falls under four star and is a bit of an expensive machine. After 3+ years of using it, I can quite honestly say If you know anything about coffee, what this machine automate is pretty amazing. It allows for coffee variability with an auto calibration. You can adjust the grind size for taste, the amount of grounds for brew. The water filling is super easy with a physical “Full” cue, and audio cue and a real-time digital display level. A timer setting for auto morning brews. You can tell it to brew a carafe or a single cup. You can dial in exactly how much coffee you want in your carafe or cup. It makes an auto mated infusion brew in the cup setting. All solid as a rock 3+ years in. This machine is amazing. The only three gripes about it: The grind shoot is a bit involved to clean, but honestly most grinders are and it’s not so bad once you do it a few times. Two, the stainless protection disc leaves a small ring of grind residue on it after every brew. It’s a quick easy paper napkin wipe after every use. More of an annoyance than anything. It is a bit expensive.Unless the machine pooped out on you before its time, every one star review of this machine is pretty nuts. Written by noobs or the not too bright.

Best home coffee maker so far hands down with grinder and carafe
This is the best home coffee maker I’ve ever had. I’m replacing the Cuisinart DGB-900BC Grind & Brew which died after 7 years of faithful service. The Cuisinart was a good machine but I was never quite satisfied with the quality of the coffee it produced and it seemed inconsistent.I think the product description for this coffee maker doesn’t do it justice. Here’s some of the things I love about it:* Just pour in whatever amount of water you want for the amount of coffee you need. On my Cuisinart you had to set the grinder for the # cups you wanted, then pour in that exact amount of water. This Breville is much smarter and automatically measures the amount of water you pour in and grinds the right amount of beans for you! I’ve always wanted this in a coffee maker and it is a great feature.* Adjustable grinder: yes, yes, yes! Being able to adjust the grind is great and important as you use different beans and want different taste profiles.* Exact countdown timer for brewing! Wow, go figure how many centuries have humans been brewing coffee at home and now we finally get a timer to tell us exactly (to the second!) when the pot/cup will be done.* Thermal carafe: a must have. I won’t have a coffee maker that “cooks” the coffee after its brewed.* Great, informative screen! Very much more user friendly than any other maker I’ve used. Reminds you to add water, even reminds you to clean out the filter after a brew!* Fancy calibration mode for the grinder if you wish to play with different profiles for your favorite beans. Not necessary for sure but a fun option I might use down the road.* Attractive machine* And the best part: it brews a tasty cup of coffee(UPDATE: 4 years later this thing still working perfectly. Cleaning the circular metal grinds gate every day takes about 2 seconds with a small piece of wet paper towel, sponge or whatever you have. Every once in a while I have a clog of ground beans stuck at the output of the grinder. It only happens a couple of times a year and seems to be when I have extra oily beans. Still a winner on features and consistent coffee.)(UPDATE #2 – it finally died after 7 years of faithful service! I’ve purchased another one because I can’t find another that has this great combination of features. Still highly recommended!).

it make a great cup of coffee
I purchased this product and have used it for over a week with all different settings and have to say, it make a great cup of coffee. My old grind and drip coffee maker was a 10 cup Cuisinart that had a blade grinder, and I would say the coffee from this machine is superior in every way and cleaning, compared to the old one is a breeze. I am perplexed by the one and two star ratings and it did cause me concern when buying, but went ahead and purchased anyways, glad I did. As stated my experience is only a week old, but I can address the issues I have read in the one star reviews, and talk about my experience:- Plastic taste to coffee – when I set it up I ran three 12 cup passes with straight water (no vinegar) and the very first cup (16 oz. single) was perfect, nice robust coffee taste, no plastic- Inconsistent coffee strength – I’ve used it about a dozen times different size pots, different size single cups, have been amazed at the consistency. I like a stronger coffee, my wife not so much. We have settled on a 4 grind and a 4 coffee strength, it satisfies both. I have only used breakfast blend beans from a local roaster (half french roast, half Sumatra) with disposable paper filters and as I said the taste is great, superior to the old machine. I guess time will tell.- Cleaning is a pain – As with anything, keep it clean, it will run well. I dispose of the beans, rinse the inside of the filter housing paying particular attention to any remaining residue grounds on the lid where the grounds come in, then I let it air dry for next use. I usually wipe the stainless disk in the back if there is any grounds on it after every brew. I pulled it apart to make sure the ground shoot was clear when I refilled the beans, was a pretty quick and simple job. Maybe it was my experience with my older maker where you had to thoroughly wash and dry the grinding mechanism after each use (steam from the pot made any remaining beans a caked-on mess) that influences my take, but its not a big deal at all.- Controls are confusing – Don’t even know where to start with this one. There’s a lot of flexibility built in, with flexibility comes options, but the options are simple. As I said, I have settled on a strength, now the only thing I have to decide is cup or carafe, and how much…simple.- Temperature – measured it once with my laser thermometer, 183 degrees for a 12 cup brew without preheating the the carafe, plenty hot for me.As I stated up front, my experience is rather short with this product, but baring any major malfunctions of failures, I anticipate it to continue making great coffee.

Awesome coffee maker
We had an older, previous model from Breville, also grinding. This is such a superior product. From the way the coffee enters the basket and has an easy to clean rotating cover. The basket distributes the water much better than most coffee makers over the coffee grinds. The basket comes off easy for easy cleaning, and reattaches easily. The basket also feels very sturdy in comparison to other coffee makers.I love how the machine can hold 12 cups of water, even though I program it to only brew 3 cups at a time. (A warning, overfilling it will cause the water to spill out the back of the machine, don’t go beyond the 12 cup red indicator, along with the audible beep). Also, the strength dial works great, especially when making a small portion.. the pot is insulated, and glides in very smoothly. It does have an auto run feature, but I haven’t found a reason to use it given how fast it brews the coffee, when I am ready for it.Overall, it makes a good cup of coffee, very easily, and cleans up easily. And it’s built to last from a well reputable company.

Great coffee maker
It’s a great coffee pot. My only complaint is the cleaning. To remove plate to clean both the plate and behind where the ground coffee comes through, the nut is very difficult to remove. I found that if you put a drop of olive oil on the threads inside the nut it makes it very easy to remove. Other than that I love it!

Great coffee maker!
Writing this after two months of use – I love this coffee maker! I must admit that when I ordered it I was a little concerned by some of the negative reviews that I had read. But I found that if one is prepared to carry out a few chores each time it is used, the reward is an excellent and consistent cup of coffee. The ‘chores’ consist of two or three minutes of cleaning every time it is used – the grounds must be emptied of course, but in addition I found that the place where the ground coffee enters the basket should be cleaned and dried, and the disc that covers the grinds chute wiped every time the machine is used. I’ve been using this maker for two months now, mostly with a Bolivian French Roast coffee, and I’ve had no hangups of coffee in the chute – the coffee feeds smoothly into the grinding burrs and into the filter basket every time. And while the carafe needs to be tilted past the vertical to pour, which seems unconventional, it works perfectly well and if the carafe lid is examined one can see why this is so. I’ve been using water from a Brita filter jug, and have detected no off flavors, and the coffee maker has worked perfecly every time.I’ve also used the single cup and the preground settings and the timer, and everything worked as expected in all cases. The only problem I’ve had was completely my own fault – if you buy this coffee maker, don’t ever run it without putting a filter in – duh! You’ll end up with coffee and grounds all over your counter and floor. I’m not at my best first thing in the morning (especially before that first coffee) and have done this a couple of times. I’m now trying to fix a routine where I put the filter in before filling with water; I just need to make this an automatic series of tasks that I don’t have to think too much about.I haven’t had a need to do a thorough clean of the machine yet (clean the bean hopper, the grind burrs, and the grinds chute) but this will happen eventually. Haven’t needed to do it in the first two months, but one of these days… Probably I’ll run some vinegar through soon, too.Bottom line – if you are prepared to do a minimal cleanup after every time you make a pot of coffee for the reward of an excellent pot of coffee, this machine could be for you. If you just want to put a K-cup in, press a button and throw the cup away afterwards, probably it’s not for you. For myself, it’s well worth the (admittedly high) price.

I really, really wanted to love this coffee maker and I do!!!!
I was determined to buy this machine after my coffee grinder went kaput, but hesitated after all the negative reviews. I have mad respect for those who had bad experiences and gained valuable insight from them. Thank you. I took the plunge and also bought the extended warranty for $40 for four years, just in case. I’ve waited two months to write a review after using the machine daily. So far I’m very happy. I’ve been able to customize the grind and the brew to our liking. Took a few pots. I use dark beans often. It stands to reason that moisture, oil, and ground coffee could present a major problem with clogging in the chute. My solution has been to make sure that the filter basket is absolutely dry before I put it back in the machine. I take it out, rinse it, using a paper towel to clean all the grounds out, especially the part that connects to the chute, and let it dry completely overnight, outside of the machine. Don’t know for sure if this is what makes the difference in my experience, and this won’t be helpful if you make multiple pots a day. Getting the last drop out of the carafe has not been a problem for us. Yes, it’s a bit awkward, but we got used to it and rarely drink the last drop anyway. The carafe does not keep the coffee perfectly hot, say 8 hours later, but I am satisfied that it will stay hot and tasty for a couple of hours or more without cooking on a warmer. I have cleaned the grinder/chute completely about 3 times, spacing it out a little more each time (haven’t seen a reminder yet). It’s a bit overwhelming the first time, but once you see how it all goes, it’s no big deal. I got in the habit of doing all the prep the night before: cleaning the filter basket, refilling the water reservoir and the bean hopper, emptying and rinsing the carafe, so in the morning, we just have to push a couple of buttons and we have the best coffee in minutes. (I don’t use the auto timer.) You do all that stuff anyway. All in all, it’s the best coffee we’ve ever made at home.

Many Options for Brewing Great Coffee Automagically
This coffee maker is an excellent choice for someone who enjoys being able to customize their coffee.–The burr grinder can be adjusted with a knob on top. When the know is turned, the LED display indicates the fitness/coarseness of the ground coffee that will be used to brew coffee.–The strength of the coffee can be programmed.–The coffee can be set to brew immediately or at a preset time. Ours goes off at 5:45 am.–The number of cups to be brewed is programmable. Up to 12 cups can be brewed. It is also possible to brew single cups with a few choices on how big a cup you want. The number of cups dispensed is determined by the program. Even if the water tank contains 12 cups, only the number entered in the program will be dispensed.–The carafe is made of stainless steel. There is a flap in the lid that keeps the carafe closed except when the carafe is tilted to pour. This design is a little awkward because the carafe must be turned up quite far to open the flap. It also helps keep the coffee warm longer by sealing it when not pouring. There’s a trade off.–The coffee bin is quite small so it must be filled often. This is especially true because we seem to use more coffee with this coffee maker.–When the coffee brews, hot water is dispensed and held in the beans for a while before the contents begin draining into the carafe. I believe the amount of time the coffee steeps before being dispensed is a function of how the aroma is set in the coffee program.–Coffee brews surprisingly quickly in this machine. From the time. The beans begin to grind until the pot is brewed is about 6 minutes for a 9 cup pot.–Cleaning the shoot where ground coffee is dispensed to the brewing basket requires removing the bean hopper and turning the burr grinder to the Unlock position. The door is opened that is used to empty grounds and the metal disc turns that opens or block the flow of coffee grounds. This stainless disc needs to be cleaned regularly, but is easily forgotten because it is not visible unless you duck down to look under the display module. There is a brush that can be used to clean the shoot. We owned the previous model and enjoyed it but it left us too soon. We bought the extra protection with this one, so I expect it will last at least three years and a day.

Finest Coffee Maker I’ve Ever Owned!
If you’re looking for a machine that will pump out bitter, brown hot liquid without end, get a Kuerig. If you want finely brewed, flavorful, coffeehouse coffee so good you can’t wait to get out of bed in the morning so you can have that wonderful first cup, look no further than this Breville. Man, this machine makes GOOD coffee! I now remember why I fell in love with Peet’s coffee’s to begin with! Breville + Peets equals joy in a cup! Nothing beats freshly, finely ground beans and this machine delivers! All I do is tell the machine how strong I’d like my brew and how many cups I’d like. The machine does the rest. Easy-Peasy!Does this baby require a little TLC? Sure does! Gotta keep the hopper clean, rinse the brew basket and wash out the carafe. About 5 minutes worth and the Breville folks have made maintenance as easy as can be. Just read the directions first! My sense with these scary “high maintenance” reviews is that someone didn’t read the owners manual.Like I said, if you don’t really care how your coffee tastes, get a Mr. Coffee or whatever. Want a quality cup? Go with this Breville. You’ll never look back!

Great coffee
I was reluctant due to poor reviews on Amazon but since this specific machine was rated high on all of my internet searches, I chose it.I never had a grind and brew unit for comparison but this machine beat my expectations. We make a full pot, preset the night before and love the taste. We’ve used Stumptown Holler Mtn and Kicking Horse Kick A$$ beans. Both on intensity setting of 7.We tried single cups but the process of removing and rinsing the filter after each cup was inconvenient. ( 1st world problems I guess). But that’s my only complaint after about a week of use.It was worth the money.

Skeptic to heavy user
My wife wanted this after using while staying at a friends house, but I was quite stand offish about originally buying this as we already have a nice grinder, french press, Nespresso, Kuerig. So, I originally searched for a standard programmable coffee maker with a insulated pot, so we could use the grinder the night before and program for the morning, but I just didn’t find any that looked reasonable. So for a gift I bought my wife the Breville Grind Control and I have not looked back! Our Kuerig is in storage, the French press and the grinder are collecting dust.Pros:We program a full pot it for 5am and it stays warm all day, programming is easyYou can make single cups like K-cups, but much better coffee and control (cleanup is about the same if you use paper filters)You can make any size cup inlucding 20 oz Yeti size cups (you have to remove the drip tray and open the filter to get the cup in and out)You can use really good local roasted coffeeStrength is based on type/quantity of beans and not on size of cupWaste is fully compostable, even if you use paper filters, my plants love it.As it holds the water on the coffee for a bit of time, the Mesh filter can come close to French Press tasteCons:Requires regular grinder cleaning (weekly for us), signified by slightly weaker coffee (I have yet to experience a fully clog/failed brew and I doubt I will), but I was used to frequently having to stick toothpicks and paper clips in the KuerigIt can’t replace the Nespresso

MIssing upper burr part makes for bad wasteful grinds and weak coffee. Breville is sending Free.
I just realized after a month of terrible coffee, that the machine is missing the upper burr grinder. This might be why some of the other bad ratings are here. I did not know to look for it until watched Youtube video on how to clean it. The guy pulled out this upper burr by twisting the small handle under the bean hopper chute. This thing never had one and who would know? It does not show it in the parts drawing or mention in cleaning. The symptoms are: Inconsistent grinds with huge waste of beans and big chunks of half-chopped beans. The grind setting does nothing.Coffee pot works great with pre-ground coffee though. The carafe is really hard to empty without spilling coffee as you must completely invert it.The machine is too tall to fit under most standard-height cupboards.I went to Breville and they are sending they missing part now! Great support in this case. Can’t wait to use my grinder.

Great coffee maker if you follow a few tips
Let me start by saying that I previously had a Capresso 454 grinder/coffee maker which served me well for many years but it was time to be replaced. Despite a lot of negative reviews, I chose the Breville and couldn’t be happier. The coffee brews at a hot temperature to make great coffee and has a lot of options to fine tune the grinding process. But let me address several of the complaints. The biggest complaint is that the coffee gets stuck in the chute. Yes, you will have this problem in most combination grind and brew models. The solution is to gently push the beans in the hopper towards the grinder either with your fingers (no you won’t get your fingers down into the grinder which sits down under) or alternatively use a spoon. If you want to set the timer and have it brew completely unattended, then this is probably not the model for you. Here is my normal routine:1. Fill hopper with fresh beans (hoppers don’t keep beans fresh)2. Open the basket (empty any old grinds) and clean up around where the coffee enters the basket especially around the stainless steel disk in the back.3. Fill with fresh water4. Hit the start button and gently help feed the beans in the hopper towards the grinder while it grinds (30 seconds)5. Wait until the brew is finished and enjoy a good cup of coffeeThis model takes a bit more care than my old capresso for which I did almost no maintenance, but overall it’s been working great.

Owned mine for 3 years, makes the best cup of coffee. PITA to clean, but well worth it. Every cup is perfect. I savor every sip every morning. I can’t wait to wake up to drink coffee in the morning.

Superior machine, delicious coffee!
I never write reviews for anything , but I felt compelled to write a review after purchasing this machine . I am a true coffee addict and a bad cup of coffee can ruin my whole day . I went through 3 Cuisinart grind and brews over the course of 10 years, 2 of which were the more expensive burr grinder version . All three of them broke for various reasons and none of them ever brewed a cup of coffee as good as the coffee from this breville . After the third broken Cuisinart , I decided to upgrade to the slightly more expensive Breville . It was the best choice ! From the very beginning it was obvious that the breville was a superior machine . You have much more control over the strength of the coffee , and the brewing process produces much more full bodied, bolder coffee than the cuisinart ever does but without being bitter . Now, I have to say that I enjoy strong coffee , but I am using 5/6 on the strength dial , and there is a lot of room to brew more mild coffee by dialing down the strength setting if that is your preference .One of the complaints in some of the reviews is that this machine does not brew hot coffee . I couldn’t disagree more and have found this to be completely UNTRUE! The coffee is extremely hot, which is also a requirement for an ideal cup of coffee for me . I also find this much easier to clean than my previous machines as well as much quieter . There is always going to be a little extra cleaning required for a grind and brew machine , but I prefer this to the mess of transferring ground coffee from a separate grinder on a daily basis. I go through a full half pound of coffee or more before cleaning this one.If have not yet found anything I don’t like about this machine , and I would definitely buy it again and recommend it to friends . BUY THIS COFFEE MAKER!!

Highly Recommend
Works great; makes a wonderful cup of coffee.Read previous reviews on picking your grind number, start with 5 and go from there unless you know your preference is flavored water or stand up spoon strong. The thermal carafe keeps coffee hot 2-3 hours and is warm/hot at 4. Haven’t tried pre-warming the carafe as that concept is defeated in setting up the coffeemaker the night before.Having had 3 other different grind & brew coffeemakers I was not daunted with the cleaning process. It is on the easier side of the spectrum from the others even. The people who fussed about the process in previous reviews have an unrealistic expectation for grind & brews. You are adding a function to your coffeemaker, you have to clean that part as well. Duh. It’s what the coffee shop people do at the end of the day to have their equipment clean & ready. The grinder area I only have to clean once a week (we make one pot of coffee a day). It is only a matter of taking the grinding area a part and rinsing the burr grinder and the bean holder and letting the parts air dry. The coffee basket is cleaned every day, obviously and the metal piece it fits up against is wiped off daily. Cleaning the carafe is not a huge issue either. Rinse it out w/ HOT water and shake it good to get the excess out. On the day I clean the grinder, I put a teaspoon of dishwasher soap in the carafe along with HOT water and let is soak. Rinse it out good when I setting up for the morning brew and it is clean as new.Yes, the price is high. I saved $100 buying through Amazon Warehouse deals for a new in box returned item (the box was damaged the ad said). So the price was only $20 more than the last grind & brew I had which lasted 3 years to the month. Having Amazon Prime I figured if it didn’t work out, I could return the Breville and just get another of the last brand I had which was still available. Not necessary and I highly recommend the Breville.

Bright LED, Wear Sunglasses
After years of ogling, hubby surprised me with this for my birthday several months ago. Now that I’ve had a chance to play with it, here my thoughts…Cons:- 1/2 lb bean hopper. For some people this is enough, but for the amount of coffee our household drinks it would be nice to have a larger bean hopper; perhaps they’ll create a hopper extension.- sometimes the latch for the lid to the water reservoir gets pushed in too far and I have to pull it back up so that the lid will close. At first we thought it was broken and almost had to return the unit, but on a fluke we saw that the latch was stuck. It’s annoying, but not a deal breaker.this is more of a heads up rather than a con: LED panel is not like your smart phone in that the brightness doesn’t adapt to your surroundings. So if you’re prepping and your surroundings are dark, be warned that you’ll be blinded so bring your sunglasses! Unless, of course, you’ve already dimmed the panel. In which case you’ll need to brighten the panel when your surroundings are brighter. LolPros:- easily programmable to auto brew.- water levels on LED display AND there is a bobber that pops when the water reservoir is full.- easy switch between brewing a full carafe or a single mug.- coffee strength is easy to program for individual preference- keeps coffee hot for 10+ hours (the more coffee in the carafe, the longer it stays hot which is nice for times when you forget to turn off the auto brew)- personally I love that the LED display alerts that the filter needs to be emptied each brewing before it will show anything else on the screen.- overall cleaning is extremely simple. The only thing I struggle with is the inside of the carafe, but that’s a me thing not a manufacturer thing. That’s my basic summary of my new favorite toy.

Fantastic product
After reading less than stellar reviews, I was a bit hesitant to buy, but it was time to replace our old grind and brew machine and we didn’t want the same one that we had already replaced twice. Besides, I have other Breville products that I love, so we took a chance.Wow! This machine is intelligently designed and does so much to ensure you get the proper grind size and brew strength. It will take some time, but I recommend that you sit down and read the instruction manual from cover to cover and then get started. I love the calibration feature. We like to try different roasts and taking the time to calibrate will help you get the most bang for your buck and not waste beans. I can’t say enough about how much we love this coffee maker. To say it’s a life changer may seem like hyperbole, but if you are a coffee lover, you’ll understand. I think it’s smarter than I am, but my feelings aren’t hurt in the least.Be aware that it is a tall unit (17” at its tallest point where the grind control knob is) and may not fit under your cabinets. It was a smidge too tall for my cabinets, so I created a coffee station on an open counter.

No Regrets – Drip Free
I went into the search process with a firm upper limit. Then I started asking friends for advice. I had two requirements. Thermos pot and drip free pouring. After over a month of search and advice from friends dedicated to their brand of drip coffee makers I was about to drop drip free and go with less drip options. Then a new drip coffee maker appeared at work. The aesthetics caught my eye. Clean design all stainless steel. Looked sturdy. So not all coffee pots are made of ugly plastic with an obvious 5 year planned lifespan. As I finished pouring my first cup from the thermos while carefully remaining over the requisite drip cloth I pulled back and looked down to assess the amount of drip. Nothing! I asked the office manager if this was typical of pouring from this pot. With a huge smile she said , “YES!.”I quickly took note of brand and the details. Got on line at my desk and reality set in as the price exceeded my upper limit by over $100. One month later, still reading reviews of pots in the planned price limit and daily changing our home drip cloth, I bit down hard and ordered my first Breville product. (Currenty coveting the 4 slot toaster)The husband asked what it cost: Answer- Pour your first cup then we will talk. Next words from him, “It did not drip.” To which I added, and it is self grinding so no coffee grinds either. Mic dropped!Only time will tell, but if the quality holds and it last 10 years, (imagine that) I will have no regrets.Only negative, without the clear glass thermos posts are easy to forget to check. We have both made that mistake. And make sure you rinse permanent filter and filter box well. The area that holds the filter does not allow for excess water.

My best coffee maker
I was having so many issues with grounds in my coffee with a drop coffee machine, and began a quest to find something better with a burr grinder. I came across this one, and I really do trust the brand. I have a Breville espresso machine, and I love that. This machine has all the things I need, and coffee grind is uniform and appropriate size. The carafe is a nice size and keeps the coffee warm for a good time. The only con I can think of is that it’s a little challenging to get all the liquid out of the carafe. You basically have to turn it upside down for those last drops of coffee. Minor inconvenience. It makes a great pot of coffee. The hopper is easy to fill with fresh coffee beans. You can set the grind to your preference, schedule the coffee to be made so that it’s done when you get up in the morning, and is easy to clean.

Will always be the best
I have had the original version of this coffee maker since 2011 and just replaced with the newer version. For 14 years I brewed a pot of coffee everyday, EVERYDAY. Yes, I had issues with the grinder clogging but figured them out. You HAVE to clean and maintain just like everything else. The grinder comes apart specifically to clean and I always cleaned the disk after brewing a pot that used the grinder. I Cannot think of anything electronic I have bought lasting 14 years. By far the best coffee maker out there! Take care of this machine and it will be a reliable part of your daily routine.

Best grind and brew coffee maker we have ever had
Without a doubt this is the best coffee maker we have ever owned. If you like fresh coffee made from fresh ground beans, this is a great choice. I’m picky about fresh – I order my beans directly online from a company that only roasts the beans the day before they ship out. This is the third grind and brew machines I have had. The previous two were Capresso. The first one lasted quite a few years, was reliable and made good coffee. The last Capresso had an unpredictable habit of occasionally flowing coffee all over the counter instead of the carafe. The company could not solve the problem so we bought this one. It works perfectly and makes great coffee. The LED screen tells you everything you need to know. I especially like the digital water level readout which makes it so easy to fill. Even better, you just fill the reservoir with water (12 cups), set the number of cups you want to brew and the machine uses only the water it needs to brew leaving the rest in the tank for next time. There is even a special selection to make the exact amount of fresh coffee directly into your commuter mug whatever size. It even adds an “infusing” cycle to make sure the small amount of coffee is brewed correctly. It is easy to adjust the grind size and strength. It is definitely worth the money

Finally a coffee maker I can commit to!
I’ve had this machine for 5 months now and I absolutely love it!I’ve tried every way you can make coffee and they all come out great but the fresh ground is best. I especially like the ability to make one large cup with using the ml/oz settings. It works perfectly for my collection of overly large coffee mugs and tastes 1000 times better than a K-Cup. The manual’s suggestion for how to make iced coffee comes out perfect! Every other time I’ve tried to make this with other coffee makers it never came out right.I’ve gotten the “de-scale” warning once since owning it and I was surprised at how easy it was; just use vinegar and water. No pricey cleaners or de-scalers needed. The only complaints I have are so minor as to be nit-picky so I didn’t take these in to account when rating it. If you use fresh ground you do need to clean out the ground chute in the filter basket after each use. The grounds collect in there quite a bit. I’ve noticed too that its best to remove the filter basket and empty it as soon as the coffee finishes brewing. I tap out the wet grounds and then leave it sitting open in the dish drainer otherwise it gets a moldy smell in my humid climate. Its also easier to clean out the grounds when its dried out. The “Empty Basket” warning that others have mentioned does get a bit annoying because it won’t go away until you remove and replace the basket. And another one others have mentioned is getting out the last little bit of coffee from the carafe. You have to take the lid off and turn it nearly upside down. All in all its the best I’ve ever owned without getting into ridiculously priced imports or professional machines. I hope it lasts a really long time!UPDATE 12/18/2021This thing finally kicked the bucket today. The water reservoir has been leaking a bit on occasion for about a year now but this morning, it finally went. I poured the water in and it came right out the back. So I got nearly 5 years out of it. I live in a hard water city so that probably didn’t help. I still love it flaws and all but before I buy another, I’ll shop around a bit.

Love it
After research and much pondering for about a month, I broke down and bought this machine. I paid under $200 for a used (repackaged) unit and it arrived like new. It must be repackaged by the maker because everything was new including the box. It makes great coffee and cleanup is not trouble, but I do clean it (1-2 min) after every brew. My favorite part is that I can dial in the brew size each time so whether I want to fill a single cup or double cup or entire Yeti it will do it. I would say the only worst part of this entire package is the included carafe. The unit is very heavy duty made of stainless steel and no cheap plastic that I can find. It has exceeded my expectations so far.

Definitely worth it!
It has been a year (3/23/21) since I got this coffee maker. I decided to review it because I’ve had enough time to see how it performs over that time.Pros:First off, I love the design. It is simple and purposeful. It is relatively quiet in operation. It brews a great cup of coffee. It is relatively simple to clean. It has all the features you’d want out of grind-and-brew. You can adjust grind and strength. It holds plenty of coffee but not enough that the beans would go stale. It is easy to descale.Cons:It has many parts–some seem overly complicated individually (but make sense as the whole). The pour-spout needs some redesign– it does need you to tilt it further than you expect in order to get a clean pour. If not tilted enough it dribbles everywhere.Overall: I don’t get the complaints about it being too difficult to clean. It seems straightforward to me. You do have to be patient but that’s not an issue to complain about. The basket holder seems a little odd at first (the secondary lid should detach to make cleaning simpler but doesn’t-again a design thing), but once you get it, it does exactly what it needs to. Doing a thorough cleaning is a multi-step process but it is not hard. I love that you can take the burr apart to clean it. I had to do this thorough cleaning only a few times (maybe 4) since getting it. It tells you when you need to descale it and I’ve had to do that only twice.I am loving this machine. Before this I had a Cuisinart DBG 700? that lasted for over 10 years. Sadly that model has been replaced by one that doesn’t seem to be as good–two people I know had the new unit and didn’t last 6 months. Also couldn’t adjust the grind coarseness. So I had to look elsewhere and this is has proven to be far superior. I have had NO issues AT ALL.I love just having it programmed to go off in the morning while I am getting ready for work. It is simply a workhorse.I would gladly recommend this coffee grind and brew. But remember that it is not as simple as the lesser units out there. It gives lots more options. I would jus go to their site and download the user manual and read through it before you buy it–that way you can see if it’s something you can incorporate in your daily routine.

She’s/He’s a 10.
Over the past 5 years I have bought 3 coffee makers. The 1st was a Cuisinart DGB-800. It was a good coffee maker that we actually used twice. It had an issue with the programming clock so my wife couldn’t pre-make coffee the night before. We then bought a 2nd Cuisinart (DGB-450) but it was way too clunky and required way too much daily maintenance. We went back to the DGB-800 even though we couldn’t program it. It worked well for daily coffee, but it had annoyances in general operations. It was tricky to fill with water and the carafe would leak. The bean hopper was great given its size, but everything else was “meh”.5 years ago when originally choosing a grind and brew coffee maker, Breville was one of my choices, but I felt it was too expensive, so went for the cheeper versions. 5 years later I decided to take the leap and make my wife happy by buying this Breville. I am happy to report this purchase was a success. It operates very similar to Cuisinart dg-800, but it does it 100x more smoothly. A touch tricky to setup, but once set, this thing just works and is seamless to operate. Best coffee maker for everyday use and makes a quality tasting cup too. If you are on the fence, just buy it. You won’t regret it.

Best Coffee maker I have ever owned
I have been buying the Cuisinart version of this burr grinder coffee maker for the last 20 years. This is the first Breville machine I have owned. It is 5X better and i am extremely happy with every aspect of its design and performance.

Good decision
Before our son was born, I used to love breaking out my french press, grinding some freshly roasted beans, and getting the temperature and brew time just right to share a perfect cup of coffee with my wife. After our son was born, I quickly realized we needed a programmable coffee machine so we would have a fresh pot waiting for us when we made it downstairs. After much research, I narrowed it down to the programmable Bonavita 1900 or the Breville Grind Control. I decided to go with the Breville because I wouldn’t have to grind the beans the night before, and I’m glad I did. It gives plenty of control over grind size and strength, so you can dial it in just right for the beans. There’s no temperature control, but whatever it’s doing works. The coffee tastes great. If the room temperature is really cold, unfortunately with the cold stainless carafe it will chill the coffee down a little too much. But as long as you keep the heat on in the kitchen at a comfortable room temperature, it comes out perfect. Even if I hit the snooze button and make it downstairs 15-20 minutes after the brew cycle has finished, it’s still plenty hot.I’ve seen some negative reviews complaining about the way the carafe pours. I was a little concerned before I bought it, but now I don’t think it matters at all, and I’m glad I didn’t let those complaints affect my decision. I agree the pouring is not perfect to get every last bit out of the carafe, but I just brew a little more than I want and dump the bit that’s too hard to pour down the sink. I figure it makes the kitchen smell better so I’m not wasting it.A few minor gripes… First, Cleaning is kind of annoying. I guess that would be the case for any coffee machine, but I feel like they could have made it easier if they tried. Second, if you forget to put the carafe in place and have the automatic timer set, it makes a HUGE mess. (Don’t ask me how I know.) The coffee goes everywhere, into crevices in the machine that probably should not have coffee in them and are really hard to clean, and then it pours out onto the counter (and then the floor). There should be something that prevents this from happening. Third, I kind of wish there was a temperature control to play with, although it does seem pretty well dialed-in as is. Fourth, some days I wish there was a heater on the carafe (preferably with a switch so I could decide whether I wanted it active). All of those things are more significant to me than the carafe pouring issue, to put that in perspective. Overall, I would make the same decision if I had to do it again because I haven’t found anything out there at any price that is better for having a hot pot waiting for me in the morning.

4.5 stars because of the carafe, but it makes really good coffee
After using this coffee maker for over 7 months, I decided that I’m well acquainted enough to provide a thorough review. First, and most important, this makes an amazing cup of coffee. Once you calibrate the grind size and the strength of your brew, it really does make a rich, full bodied, complex brew. And, after FINALLY figuring out how to make the metal disk turn to the open slot, cleaning is relatively easy. So much better than our Cuisinart Grind&Brew (both model types). The carafe is the reason that this deserves only 4.5 stars. The carafe itself is 4 stars at best. You cannot pour too fast or it’ll drip. And you have to make sure that you’ve tipped it up enough to stop the coffee flow while still holding it over the cup or you’ll get drips on the counter. It’s almost impossible to get every bit of liquid out of. I don’t even try now. But it keeps the coffee at the proper temperature for a decent amount of time.It really does give a good grind with a lot of variety on the size of the grind and how much it will grind thanks to the ability to calibrate the coffee maker to different beans. So you can get a lot of variation in your brew from dark to light, from bold to mild.It is easily programmable so you can wake up to fresh brewed coffee, having all the necessary features. It also seems really well made.It is finicky and you do need to clean the chute out often as well as making sure the metal disk doesn’t have coffee caked onto it. It’s not *hard* to clean, but it needs to be done often enough that some people may not like that. It is also super particular about de-scaling, even though we used filtered water. It’s going to bug you about it, so keep vinegar on hand. I do think the coffee it makes is well worth all the fuss and I hope it lasts.

Ordered this coffee maker 3 weeks ago and love it. I was a little concerned about the consistency of the coffee grinder from reading some of the reviews, but I have found it to be problem free, The coffee is excelent and the carafe holds tempreture thoughout the day. The design of the control features is excellent and makes for very easy operation, love the veiw finder and water level indicator, no more moving the coffee maker to look on the side for the water level. There were some reviewers complaining about week coffee, again I have not found that to be the case at all. I am using quality beans with the grind is set at level 4 and making 12 cups of coffee, the results are fantastic. The information features on the view finder are all located on the front top of the coffee maker for easy and effiecent viewing. It prompts you to prevent you from operating the coffee pot if the basket hasn’t been clelaned or the water tank is empty. The time clock feature is easy to use and easy to program and I have had no issues with it.My wife and I are very happy with this coffee maker and consider it to be the best we have ever owned ( and we have owned many ) and it has out performed the Bunn, Krups, Mr. Coffee, Calphalon and Braun.

8 years of daily coffee and this thing is a rockstar
I literally use this coffee maker daily and have for 8 years. It makes superb coffee and I’ve had compliments from many others stating the same. When/if this one dies, I sure hope they still make them because I’ll buy another in a heartbeat.
